New York has frozen over-New York's May Issue for Good Cause violates 2A

Let's blow the foam off the beer. The Second says that the right to keep and bear arms is a right. Last time I checked, bearing arms means carrying them. There was never a qualifier in the Second that there was any restriction on where arms could be borne.

Seems simple enough to me. I think all 9 Justices should be able to read.

In 2017 there were 243,000 concealed carry permits in Illinois !

That would be way down the list if you ranked states by the number of permits. By USCCA
01/10/2021

Which States Issued the Most Permits in 2020?
As the popularity of concealed carry and responsible gun ownership rise across the country, you may be wondering which states issued the most concealed carry permits. These states tend to be more friendly toward responsible gun owners. It should come as no surprise that Florida — a.k.a. “the Gunshine State” — leads the pack. See the rest of the top ten states with the most concealed carry permits below.

Florida: >2.19 million (resident permits only)
Texas: >1.52 million
Pennsylvania: >1.42 million
Georgia: >1.1 million
Alabama: ~1.09 million
Indiana: >967,000
Ohio: >710,000
North Carolina: >703,000
Utah: >692,000
Tennessee: >681,000

As clear as it could be.

Careful with those Florida numbers. No doubt we are #1 however folks die, fail to renew etc as well as the state being careful to not cancel "active" permits erroneously. We're probably a couple hundred thousand more than Texas but we been at it longer, they'll catch up. I've had my card since early 1988. Joe

Same old B.S. over and over. Yawn. Yeah I know no one can read this. That's okay. What a crock.

United States DOJ filed Amicus brief against shall issue:

https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/20/20-843/193217/20210921144917606_20-843bsacUnitedStates.pdf

It is very well written.
But distilled to its essence IMHO it says:

Guns are bad
Gun laws are good
Government wins

Again IMHO: ^^^Not persuasive to an originalist Justice

Also, the United States did ask to participate in the oral argument against carry permits
https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/20/20-843/193218/20210921145008841_20-843%20Bruen%20Divided%20Argument%20Motion.pdf

A number of Senators and Representatives filed a brief against concealed carryhttps://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/20/20-843/193275/20210921160349789_20-843_Amicus%20Brief.pdf

By my count only 21 Senators joined the Brief. IMHO this is a good sign that there are not 50 Senators in favor of severe gun control. Please, no nasty comments about politicians.

I find the following statement in the Amicus Brief of the United States particularly insulting:

Federal law illustrates some of the types of regulations that the Second Amendment permits. Congress has prohibited the possession of firearms by several categories of people, such as felons, see 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(1); fugitives, see 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(2); drug ad- dicts, see 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(3); persons who have been committed to mental institutions, see 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(4); and domestic abusers, see 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(8)-(9).

So because it’s okay to prevent nasty and dangerous individuals from possessing guns it’s okay to prevent good, honest and decent people from carrying a handgun unless they can show special need?

Here is my bottom line:

The Briefs against shall issue urge that the Second Amendment merely protects a person’s right to show they have “proper cause” to carry a gun in public.

IMHO the Constitution is violated when a law requires a person to show they are entitled to exercise a Right guaranteed by the Constitution.

I wonder if the move of so many states to pass Constitutional Carry since Heller, will weigh on the court.

I hope it does. I agree with you on Alito & Thomas. I think Barrett will be solid too. Roberts has unfortunately proven many times in the past he cannot be relied upon to follow the Constitution.
Kavanaugh & Gorsuch are question marks. My gut thinks Kavanaugh will vote with lib justices.
I pray it goes our way.

Ned

I’ll bet there are VERY FEW CC permits issued in DC and Chicago. NYC will be no different.

New York State Pistol Permits are not valid in New York City "unless approved by the Police Commissioner of that city".

There are people with NYC carry permits but my impression has always been that you need to be "well connected". I could name a few celebrities that have them.

I have only known one person that had a upstate permit that was valid in NY City. ( I saw the proof) Yes he was well connected, the president of a large local (Albany area) bank and as this was the late 1970s he made many trips to NYC on official bank business.

He was also a serious skeet shooter and taught me a lot about the game.

Technically you are correct; but remember we have been living in a Post-Constitutional Society for quite some time now.
I don’t like it, but as population grows with it’s higher percentage of people on the dole with no job skills and little interest in acquiring any, socialism with it’s prohibitive gun laws looks more and more appealing.
People have been trading liberty for money and leisure for a long time.

What is there to stop the governor of NY or POTUS from declaring a National Emergency and shut NICS down by Executive Order or mandate until further notice?
The Covid mess is proof that they could do that and get away with it.
The Supreme Court would not want want to touch that one with a ten foot pole.

Cough cough, secession, cough cough.
Let's not dance too close to the "political content" line, shall we? I'd hate to see this thread locked. ;) 👍

Edit: for all its faults, Illinois is a "shall issue" state. Lots of CC permits in Chicago. (E.G.- Me! :D)

A SC ruling in favor of the NRA will have little or no effect on the New York CCW permit issuing SOP.

Anyone that thinks otherwise is headed for a big disappointment.

Not true

If Supreme Court says that New York must be Shall Issue something will change, at least in New York. Happened in D.C.

On October 10 the Supreme Court granted the Motion of the United States to participate in the November 3 Oral Argument. The time split will be:

30 minutes Petitioner in favor of carry permits
20 minutes to New York State against carry permits
15 minutes to United States against carry permits
