Hey everyone, new here. My last Smith was a brand new 686 revolver. Yeah, it's been that long.

My new favorite has been a Sig P320 .40SW, but I have a lead on a pre-owned M&P .45, all stock, 2 or 3 magazines and some ammo for a fair (not great) price.

So, since I have absolute faith in the S&W name and reliability, you guys have any advice, comparisons, opinions, etc?

I'd appreciate anything you have to share.

After 20 years running matches, my main concern on buying used is how much the previous owner "improved" the gun. Many "improved" them until they were unreliable, then sold them.

Depends what you want it for. My main EDC is that same pistol in 9mm. Know that the .45 version holds 7 fewer rounds and recoils more. Ammo costs more, too. Still, the full size M&P is a good weapon. If you can get it cheap, grab it. I handload, so .45 ammo is much less costly. If I found the deal you're contemplating, I'd probably fork over.

Yeah, I'm very much used to shooting .45acp in an old 70 Series 1911. Actually, my favorite caliber, so ther's that.

How 'modular' are these things and what are people doing as 'required' type upgrades? Any?

You can put in an Apex trigger. And change the sights. I left mine stock.

It's just going to be a backup/alternate home defense piece. So far, sounds like it fits my want (need?) for a bigger caliber.

It will make a great house gun, trail gun (unless big toothy critters are a concern) and a first rate carry gun in tbe right holster. I have the .45 compact and it is an awesome gun. All stock except TruGlo TFX Pro sights. Shoots very well, carries surprisingly well. Grab it if it's a good deal. If the pistol is all stock all the better. You'll like it the way it is and you can add your upgrades that you see fit.

If I had a M&P 1.0, I would not upgrade (I am not upgrading my 9mm M&P) , but if I were buying now, I would be looking at S&W M&P2.0 45ACP SKU 11769, it is "too cool" with the brown color and upgraded sights. Brownels has the best price that I know of. Of course, the M&P 1.0 can be bought for around half the price. My two cents.

I have both the Shield 45 and a 1.0 full size 4.5 inch. I did install the apex duty carry kit in the full size. I love both of them.

I bought a mid size when some LEO agency had dumped a bunch on the market. Liked it so well I eventually picked up a full size and compact to keep it company. They are all 1.0s of course and the only change I'm contemplating is sending the sights in to be rejuvenated or what ever they do to them. Nice thing about the M&P version 1.0 in my opinion is the used price. Until Covid-19 ran prices up they were fairly easy to find <$250.

Yeah like ~$450 for this one. Still not bad, I think. High, but not bad...after inspection of course.

Well, the seller just came by with the .45, 150 rounds of ammo total, 2 holsters and 3 magazines.

Suffice it to say...I have a new toy. It's in really good shape except for some carry blemishes on the slide.

I'm pleased thus far. Thanks to you all for your input!!

Good buy.
I have an M&P Compact .45. Added the Apex sear and it shoots like a dream.
