Newbie Requesting Help

Hello, I am Don and I just purchased my first S&W revolver. A Model 66-2. Naturally I am curious about it's manufactured date. I also just looked at a catalog on Amazon and that will run me around $30. So I thought I would see if some kind soul with the resources might offer to help. Can anyone confirm when my S&W 66-2 # AJW4518 was made? Thanks kindly for any consideration. Don

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, your revolver dates to 1986.

The book you were looking at was probably the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition (SCSW for short).

That is the most current book to date, and is the go-to for most of us to look up S&W info.
The book is well worth the money.

The dates in the book are approximate shipping dates and not necessarily build dates.
The SCSW lists S/N prefix AHT in July 1985, ALA in November 1985 and AHC in January 1986. I'd guess your 66-2 falls into those dates.
The 66-2 was introduced in 1982 and built until the 66-3 came out in 1986.
