I load 185-grain lead semi-wadcutters for my .45ACP target rounds with AutoComp. In fact, I just finished loading 700 of them today! I get great 25-yard accuracy with 6.7 grains. In the years I've loaded for the .45ACP, I never used any other bullet weight as 185-grain seems to be the universal match bullet weight and all I shoot at with my 1911s is paper (autoloading handguns and rifles are illegal for hunting in Pennsylvania).

IMR - Legendary Powders lists 200 grain JHP with AutoComp as 6.4 to 7.0. They also have 230 grain but not hollow point only FP and LRN which are 6.0 to 6.6 grains.
I've loaded 230 grain FMJ at 6.3 and 6.5 using IMR 800X with good results, which looks to have very similar data to AutoComp.

I never have worried about bullet brand. Just start low and work your way up until you get the desired results. You may have to tweek the length, but I doubt it. The Winchester HP seems to be shaped close to their hardball load.

I carry WW white box hollowpoint when I choose to carry a .45. They're cheap and still a .45 if they don't open.

Close enough to get started safely. Try over all length 1.220" to 1.240" if you have feeding problems.

Thanks guys for the information, sound like good place to start .

One of the most overlooked sources of load data for bullets or powder is the bullet's or powder's manufacturer. Whenever I've used them I come away with either an email or over-the-phone load data that comprises at least a half a page of notes. Always a prime source. :)

Note: You can always try here too: http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp
