Newest Caliber Ever?

Well, looks like Federal is on-board... I'm willing to bet they're devoting a pretty good part of their output to getting the new caliber to market. I doubt S&W would be announcing a new gun without guarantees from Federal that they will keep up their end.

I agree with this. I don't think Smith would make the guns unless Federal committed to a certain amount of production.

If the new cartridge is going to make it, it is going to have to be readily available

Ya made a math mistake somewhere

muzzle velocity x muzzle velocity x weight in gr divided by 450,240

1200 x 1200=1,440,000 x 100 = 144,000,000 / 450,240 = 319.829

So it as good as the hottest 380 rounds

I am speculating but maybe demand for 9mm has plateaued. Perfect time to launch a gimmick cartridge with range ammo at 80c a round. It's a niche market.
The 327 Federal is rated for 45,000 PSI. So 50,000 isn't that much more.
That's very impressive. In that case I agree with Stephanie B that the muzzle blast must be fearsome. I wonder if that will be a turn off for the EZ's target market.

Federal is claiming 1250 ft/s with a 100 grain bullet, not 1200.

Whatever company is loading .380s to that sort of power level will probably load this one with a 115 grain at 1350 ft/s for 465 ft-lbs. They usually do this by sticking a +P label on cartridges without a +P spec and cramming as much powder as it takes into them to claim the title of "hottest load available".

I am going to stick with ammo from companies that view SAAMI pressure specs as limits, not a starting point.

G&A plug piece says real gun data:
"The HST load had an average velocity out of the Shield EZ of 1,205 fps with an extreme spread of 18 fps and a standard deviation of 9. The Gold Dot produced an average velocity of 1,095 with an extreme spread of 12 and a standard deviation of 6."

That is not much below catalog spec from a test barrel and I think it is in the right direction, this is a hot round for the size gun they are promoting.

As you say in your first line, it's a plug piece. Has any gun magazine ever had a bad review of a new round or gun?

Remember how great the Remington R51 was in every review? Or how the 45GAP was going to be a game changer?
I've lost count of all of the new calibers that were going to replace 5.56 in AR style rifles.

Wow... Federal in 2022 is turning out an analog to the Tokarev, Mauser and Luger .30 cartridges. And people who don't know better will buy it. The triumph of marketing...
