Just picked this nice little J-frame. Very nice condition , stocks numbered to the gun. Appears fired but not much. Need a little help on the date. Ser. # 4772xx. No box or papers,; I think I did OK at $275.
It's an early one, probably from 1966. If you clean it up nice, you might find it to be more highly polished from the factory than later and current stainless revolvers. Was it half off day at the gun store?
IIRC the earliest ones had high polish finish and hammer trigger that were made of SS until galling problems surfaced, Next batch had case colored hammer trigger until they changed to the "Flash Chromed" hammer trigger that are on your gun.
Do your grips have SS washers inside them and do they number to the gun ?
Wasnt aware the flash chromed hammer trigger guns came with diamond Magnas.....of course anything is possible with S&W.
You did very well. My 60 is R33### serial numbered. Came with bobbed hammer and banana grips from the estate of a friend and fellow officer. Great little .38. Enjoy yours!
Just finished cleaning up the little revolver and applying a couple of coats of Ren Wax. All mechanics check OK , really looks great, hope to shoot this week.
Online yours would sell for $400-$550 all day long. I found one recently, a M60-7 and felt fortunate to have payed $450, I had been looking for a while for anything decent under $500. Keep in mind that is online pricing and doesn't include the shipping , FFL cost. A quality example of a model 60 is always sought after. Consider yourself lucky. Happy Shooting!
