News flash!!! News flash!!! News flash!!! Finished up some things at the church this morning and had the rest of the day off!!! Sooooo ... I ran home and grabbed a pretty little Ruger Standard Auto, my much beloved Model 18-3, a brick of ammo and slipped off to the range. There were lots and lots of people there. And ... there were those delightful little paddle things ... six to a stand ... that you could have fun popping around. That little Ruger did it's thing ... nine shots meant two magazines and then a trip around the world w/ the 18 would have all the little paddles back where they started. Just a pure delight in every way.

Believe it or not ... a 1.75x pair of reading glasses and a dab of white model paint on the front sight and you can really have a lot of fun!!! Believe it or not ... the 18-3 was just about faultless. The Ruger was faster, but the 18-3 simply was easier for getting hits ... double-action and of course single-action.

Now I'm home. Watched John Wick. Now about to watch John Wick: Chapter 2 and clean my Ruger. Then, I'll sit down and slowly, thoughtfully and gratefully clean my beloved 18-3.

A word to the wise. I was shooting Federal 38 gr. HP ammo. It was put up in 40 round boxes, 400 rds. to the brick. Odd. But during the Obama administration I bought whatever .22 LR ammo I could find. This stuff was some of the cleanest burning .22LR ammo I've ever seen. Empties about fell out of the revolver ... no stickiness either loading or ejecting at all. Very easy to use. Bullets show some slight blue discoloration and occasionally some corrosion. Accuracy was outstanding. So, go figure. All in all it was a wonderful way to spend my day off! Tomorrow ... Sunday! Church! Sincerely. bruce.

I'm with Strawhat. To cold here, considering my range is at my house. Crazy windchill coming off Great Lakes today. I've been fretting all day as to whether or not I should pick up a police trade model 65?????? Another member mentioned it and I got the itch. In past 6 months I've bought or traded for a K22, a Colt MKIII Trooper, and a NY Corrections model 10. Seems as though that should satisfy a man for a while LOL. But as they say, "they ain't making them anymore ". My 401k goes up n down but S&W's only go up. Maybe I should look at it as an investment!!!

Had a successful finish today at the local SCDNR range for a red-dot sighting in that I began previously, when I'd tried to set zero to 50 yards, but ran out of 7.62 M80 ammo just getting rounds on paper, then zero at 25 yards.
Returned with more Winchester white box M80 ammo today and dialed 50 yard zero from 25 yards with just two adjustments.
Last step was try some Fiocchi .308 150gr JSP, to compare POI to the 7.62.
Whoopee!! Sent 4 .308 rounds, and two were bulls, with the group half the size of the 7.62 WWB group that proceeded it. So the ammo POI is caliber interchangeable for the accuracy limit of my new red-dot.
Mission accomplished on a beautiful sunny mid-60 degree day at the range in the rolling Blue Ridge mountains foothills.

Do you go to Pickens, Mary?

Larry
Yes, when I don't use an indoor range. Been going there since I first moved to SC and started the shooting hobby.
Coming from NY where everything costs, I practically fainted when the DNR officer told me the facility is free to use.

I too had a great range day today. Hope to post some pics soon. Not much better than Range Day.
