I've had three phones with NEXTEL for about 5 years. Up graded phones and plans at the 2 and 4 year marks.

Last July I upgraded/renewed my contract for 2 years and got three i850 phones. All was well for 8 months, then my wife's phone screen went white. (she went back to an old i205 we got with our original contract). Next week my phone starts eating batteries. Wouldn't last 2 hours and it was idle with a good signal so it wasn't searching. (I bought a refurbished i836). Then 2 weeks ago my son's phone would loose/break power. Turn the phone right back on and it would have a full charge.

So last Friday morning I was ill tempered and looking for a fight. Called the customer service number and TOLD them how upset I was and I was just looking for a reason to cancel my service and that I knew the penalty would be pro-rated and it would be closer to $50/phone than the "advertised" $200...blah blah blah.........

I got three refurbished i880's this morning from UPS. How 'bout that!

I had battery drain problems with my Verizon Razr last fall. They upgraded the software and it solved the problem.

I dropped/lost one of my Razr cells before a rainstorm in Feb and one of the dogs, pit/lab, found it. It was toast when he was done with it. I had another account ant both were up in two weeks, so I rode it out with one phone and then subscribed to Sprint/Nextel. Where I live the Verizon signal is spotty and a Sprint tower is about 1/4 mile away.

The Sprint salesman gave me an additional $50 off the new i576, so I paid $30 plus the activation fee and taxes. It also had a $50 rebate.

I know I seem to be making this unnecessesarily long. The rebate was good for 30 days, but expired in two weeks. as I found out when I waited almost a month to send it in. I emailed them and said "What the ...?" I got a reply and they said that I pointed out something they were unaware of, and that my account would be credited with the amount of the rebate, and thanks for letting them know.

Sio far service has been much better with Sprint than Verizon for me. I used to have late or unrecieved voicemails and a bad signal where I live.

Before Verizon the service with Airtouch was excellent. Some new owners took over and wanted to fatten the bottom line which is ok, but was overdone and it came at the expense of good service.

My SIL lives in San Diego and has Verizon. They came here (NWFL) in April and they got ZERO bars at my house. Drove her husband nuts. He is a on-line junkie and does all his banking/credit cards on line. He had to drive about 15 miles to get a sig stron enough to run his laptop.

I also have a NEXTELL tower 1/4 mile away. I can see the top warning light blinking through the woods out my front door. In the past 3 years I have never had a lost signal anywhre I have gone. Of course I'm not a world traveler though.

I've had good service and they did me right with these 3 phones I think.

Tell him to get a sprint broadband card. My boss got & has one before they got fiber optic. Said the Sprint was much faster than Verizon broeadband. I know, I had VB for two years and it sucked. I now tap into thier FO cable.
