I bought this revolver this week, first S&W in a long time, just waiting for it to get shipped here from out of state. I tried searching for threads on this specific configuration but was unsuccessful. Just looking for additional information and thoughts from those that have this one.

My only experience with the 686+ four-inch is in handling. I once had an early six-inch L-frame, it was great in some ways, but it was heavy and sluggish to handle. The four-inch version certainly handles much better.

My take from the safety of my armchair: The current 686+ 4" is probably one of those guns that meets the "If I could have only one gun..." qualification, unless you have either a specific requirement for a six-inch barrel, or a competition limitation on revolvers with more than six chambers. I like "size efficiency" and think that L-frames and seven charge holes are a good match.

Over the last two years, examples I have looked at in stores have seemed to be of good quality and had decent actions.

Now you can entertain us with lots of pics of the holsters and speedloaders you'll buy, plus photos of group sizes, etc.

We are an enabling bunch!

I have only bought two S&W revolvers since 1993.

In 2018 I bought the current production 686 Plus in four inch. It is exceptionally accurate but the hard thing to get use to is, seven shots. In the Police Department all our Shooting Courses were based on PPC shooting where all you have to do is count to six. Mentally and Muscle Memory I want to reload after six shots.

I found a really nice used one last year for $650. Came with the Hogue rubber. I swapped out for Hogue wood. Companion to the 686-4 2.5 inch I got the year prior. My only two L frames.
I think the 686 is the best thing S&W has done in the last 40 years.

You have two nice ones and thank you for sharing.
