My only experience with the 686+ four-inch is in handling. I once had an early six-inch L-frame, it was great in some ways, but it was heavy and sluggish to handle. The four-inch version certainly handles much better.
My take from the safety of my armchair: The current 686+ 4" is probably one of those guns that meets the "If I could have only one gun..." qualification, unless you have either a specific requirement for a six-inch barrel, or a competition limitation on revolvers with more than six chambers. I like "size efficiency" and think that L-frames and seven charge holes are a good match.
Over the last two years, examples I have looked at in stores have seemed to be of good quality and had decent actions.
Now you can entertain us with lots of pics of the holsters and speedloaders you'll buy, plus photos of group sizes, etc.
