I bought it from my grandfather years ago just before he died. He said he never fired it. I have the box with the usual papers and ads you get with a new one, spare mag and brush. It's interesting to compare side by side with my 59-6.

I contacted S & W about something (can't remember now) after I got it and was advised not to shoot it if I didn't need to because it had attained a sort of semi-collectible status. I do have plenty of others.

It's the only one I own that I have not shot. The bright finish and wood grips look great and I'd like to let the wife and daughter try it out. Should I keep it unfired?

I would, unless you plan on selling it. Shooting it will not hurt it and as I said, only affects the value if you plan on selling it. If it's going to be kept as a family heirloom, you might as well enjoy it! Just take really good care of it It's probably already worth three times what you paid for it. ;)

I had a 39-2 nickle, now it's my nephew's. I fired it and kept it clean. Got it on GB for $500.00 NOS. S&W produced a lot, so go have fun with gramp's gun at the range.

It would pay to check Gun Brokers before shooting the gun. Some, NIB, are asking over $1000.00 with box and all. A collector's thing, I reckon.

I bought one last year NIB with all the stuff for $600...didn't want to shoot it so I went out and bought a nice one at a pawnshop for $325....go figure....if you're not a collector and not going to sell it, shoot it......if you don't sooner or later someone will.
