I happened upon an older nickel 4" 586 that I've seen pictures of and hope to pick up tomorrow morning for only $425, which from what I've seen is more than reasonable, but looking to the experts here for a reality check. The owner says it's in "great shape" and the pics look good but they are not great quality pictures so can't realy tell til I can see it in person. I'm mostly a 3rd Gen semi auto guy but have been flirting with these older 586 and 686's after seeing a couple but they have mostly been off the charts in price. I'm guessing this one is a late 80's vintage based on a couple of older 686's I saw recently that tracked back to that period that were also square butt and firing pin on the hammer guns. These seem to have a real following and for $425 if it checks out it seems like too good a deal to pass up. Would appreciate an guidance from this group as the revolver experts. Thanks much

$425 sounds very good. Most full size revolvers don't seem to be fired as much (no spray and pray) or carried as much so they are usually in very good shape. Nickle holds up very well unless poorly stored. I'm betting you are going to love it.

425 is a steal if it is in great shape and has the original wood target grips

Picked it up today! Needs a little cleaning but it's very nice, very tight, yes original wood grips . Will post pictures later. This one is a keeper

You could make an easy $200, you got a great deal.

WOW, I'M SURPRISED THAT SANTA IS STILL HANGING AROUND. CHRISTMAS HAS LONG PASSED. CONGRATULATIONS ! ! ! I AM EAGERLY AWAITING PICS………...

OK as a new guy in here HOW DO I ATTACH PICTURES?? Would love to share with you all

I'm not a nickle guy but I'd grab that for $425.

Even if just to have until I had a chance to "flip it" on a blue 586 or 686......you should be able to get $500-600 in value out of it !!! But IMO you won't ever lose any money on it.

You did good I passed on a 4" nickel 586-1 last Friday for $550. Probably could have got it for $500. But the nickel wasn't in the greatest shape. I am not a big fan of nickel either. And am glad I did when I bought a looks to be unfired 5" 25-7 later that afternoon for $150 more.

Congratulations. You made a good purchase.
I'm always on the prowl for a 586 or 686.
or a 27, or a 28 ......

Around here, asking price for L frames seems to start around $650 on average, with the occasional deal around $550.
