Nickel cleaning

Flitz was recommended to me by some on this forum a week or so ago. I tried it and it works great. I have a 19-3 that was hazy. Looks great now and I'm still working at it. They also recommended Mother's MAG alumina polish. I tried that 1st but it was taking forever. It is less abrasive. So it depends on need. I think the flitz for bringing back that shine if it's milky or hazy. Mother's to finish the job to super high polish. Bought Mother's at auto parts store. Flitz at hardware store. Check online. Flitz was harder to locate.

I had good luck with just Rem Wipes at range then CLP at home with towels or rag. I used CLP in bore so far. I called S&W and they recommended a milder solvent for bore like Hoppe's Elite.

I checked Hoppe's site and they don't recommend it on nickel guns in their FAQ's...

To clean nickel guns, I use Prolix. It works great and it is safe for use on nickel finishes. I polish with Flitz, and the use Reniassance Wax to protect the finish. As mentioned Mothers Max polish is good, any good carnauba wax will work. For me, Flitz and Reniassance Wax work the best, but that is what I am used to using. Soft cloth and do not press hard when using ANY polish. Any polish is abrasive.

flitz

thanks for all the great advise guys.

I noticed there are quite a few suggestons to use Flitz. I was under the impression Flitz is ammonia based (smells like it), and i was told never to use an ammonia based product on Nickel.

This must not be true?
