A family friend was over the other day admiring my low cost Sigma and told me I should look into getting night sights being that the gun is for home defense. I honestly never use my sights, day or night and all my shots are on target. He suggested rather than pay a premium for pro night sights that you can just get some luminesent paint and use a toothpick to drop the paint in on the factory sights. Anyone out there doing this? I imagine it doesnt last very long, but a small bottle of the paint is really cheap and re-applying it during cleanings seems easy enough to do. Thoughts?.......

If you are going to be shooting in the dark or low light get a light/laser combo. Way better/faster for quick accurate shooting. You also need to see what you are about to shoot.

Night sights require charging and only glow for a limited time. They are usually thicker than normal sights so if you target shoot they make tight groups harder.

If you cannot mount a laser / light on your gun they are better than normal irons.

I have an M6 in addition to night sights on my XD 40 I have for home defense.

Ya, well with S&W jerk design of thier proprietary rail system for the Sigma VE series of which they sell no accessories for, I have to get a picatinney rail adapter to be able to mount anything to it. I did find one company that has a direct mount laser for the Sigma, but no laser/light combos. I was told once that the M4 flashlight mounted directly but hell if I can find one of those out there anymore. But you're right, laser/light is the way to go. Now if I could just find a decent one that doesn't cost more than my $200 gun, I'd be in good shape!

Night sights are going to be $150, laser/lights are $200. Bottom line is what you want and what you want to pay.

For me (because I'm cheap) sight paint and a $3.00 led flash light in my off hand works for me.

I have meprolight night sights and I love them. At night they glow they glow nicely....

where did you get the paint from?? this is one thing that i havent looked into

I got it at a gun/hunting store. It comes with green, red, yellow, orange, white, and i think pink. Just ask for sight paint, but what I have doesn't glow.

I've got the meprolite or tritium type sights that glow in low light conditions, and I have Crimson Trace Laser grips both on my 1911 ultra. Maybe overkill but I like it and need all the help I can get anymore.

ok thanks for the info rich and charliee.... i think i might go with the paint that doesnt glow... just to make the sights a little easier to use for me... im thinking about getting a laser instead of night sights... not sure how much i would use it when im letting off rounds on my range, i like getting accurate with the sights

I have heard a lot of people going to just front night sights. As a firearms instructor I pound in concentrating on your front sights to tighten your groups. It works very well and will improve your shooting. My Dan Wesson RZ-45 came with just a night sight on the front sight. I have found it is great and just automatically aligns witht the rear sight. I heard that the shooting schools are going that way as well. Check out their forums. Gunsite etc.

One thing that just came to my attention is the when you're in fog the night sights light you up....more sense to me for just the front sight.

My SD9 came with just the front tritium, and I do like it. The pistol is in my bedside table drawer, and when I open the drawer I immediately see the front sight.
