Just got a 3913 and the whites of the sights are a little dull so I would like to replace them with night sites. I did some research and a lot of buyers claim that the sights they bought from various manufacturers don't fit right or there are other problems.

1. Any recommendations on brand?

2. Can I install them myself or do I need a gunsmith?

I've used Trijicons mostly and think they are the best option for accuracy, as they are designed for more specific models. You would want the Trijicon SA08 or SA24 for the 3913.

XS 24/7 sights offer the fastest target/sight acquisition and good short range combat accuracy. These are also a bit cheaper than the Trijicons.

You can install either one yourself with some preparation and research, but if your just going to do 1 3rd Gen set, might be better to have Trijicon/qualified gunsmith do it.

After thinking about this, I need night sights, 2 magazines, and replace some springs. It is easier to sell it and I can get a new Shield with night sights for the same price I can sell the 3913 for.

holy cow what a 180 degree reversal.....XS 24/7 night sites for about a benji with free shipping from Adorama....a new recoil spring..and a $30 mag....then you have the best single stack 9 ccw made with a metal frame....I had a shield....I liked the shield....I wouldn't trade any one of my 3913's for 2 shields.....just sayn:D

and like TercGen said you can install them with a little research .....the XS sights came with its own drift..all I needed was some medium emery cloth for dressing up the sights themselves and a padded drill press vice to secure the slide......EZ...PZ;)

I've shot a Shield. I bought a 3913, Trijicon sights, had them installed, and have since bought 4 magazines (for a total of 6), and wouldn't sell or trade it for any polymer single stack I've ever seen. This is my daily packing buddy. I've wanted one since the first time I saw one, and the only thing I've seen since I got it that would tempt me is the SIG P225A1. I have (a lot) less money in my little 3913LS than it would take to get that SIG with night sights and 6 magazines.
