Can anyone give me some advise on the S&W 357 nightguard in .41 mag or the 657 PC .
I really like the .41 mag and want to use one for my CCW.

I was very fortunate enough to escape from a defective Taurus 415 when the seller bought it back from me. It was the right Caliber and the size was good, but it was fussy about ammo and also went out of time. NO more off brands for me!!!!

Thanks in advance PS I did a search but came up dry.

i have a 3"657 i use for concealed carry...its had an action job, ported, and has mepro night sights...makes a great carry gun...41 mag.has fast become among my top calibers...reloading surely helps as the factory ammo is pricey....i also have a 657 with 7.5"barrel and a M57 six inch in the presentation box...good luck in your search!

It's steel vs scandium, cylinder cut for moon clips or not, Performance Center action job or not.

I have a Performance Center 627 2 5/8" bbl and wouldn't trade it for the world.

.41 Rem Mag is an awesome round.

I've got to get back into reloading so I can afford to shoot mine 57 more often.

DoubleTap makes some great Barnes loads for this performer.

Groo here
The NG will be easier to carry[lighter] the PC will have a better trigger
and be easier to shoot..
I have been looking hard at a PC because of the troubles that
the 329 has with the blast guard on the frame...

Thanks for the replies guys. I kinda thought I`d like the steel version.

Model 357 Night Guard 41 Mag

I own this little firecracker and I love it. My palm is literally black and blue for a couple days after shooting full loads but I'm starting to load some milder stuff for practice. I just picked up a Marlin 1894FG for some additional 41 Mag fun.

It is very difficult to find much as far as reviews go online, but I'm very happy with this little revolver. A buddy of mine has the 329PD 44 Mag (25.5oz) and shooting the two side by side with factory (winchester white box 44mag vs winchester platinum tip 41mag) loads yielded no noticeable difference in felt recoil. My Raging Judge 454 Casull with factory (magtech 260gr 1800fps) felt like a pussycat next to the little Night Guard in 41 magnum.

I just love how light and compact it is. Very easy to carry and conceal all day. And in 41 magnum... Does it get any better?

I've never shot a .41 mag before, would love to.

Would certainly be expensive to shoot unless you reload. The NG probably isn't too much fun to shoot because of recoil, but I bet the 657 would be a blast. I have the 357 mag version and love it.

Evening, Jack,

Good to see you're still out there looking for a good, small .41 Maggie! Thought I'd share a few photos of my 3" M657 Lew Horton pistol, which took me quite a few years to find, back when there were brand new on the market, and also my own little Taurus M415. I'm sorry you found a lemon when you tried this little boomer, as mine has been outstanding in all respects. In any case, here they are, just for fun! I've tossed in one more photo, of the Smith, the little Taurus, and my new Ruger .41 Bisley stainless steel Blackhawk, with it's 5.5" barrel. Great guns, one and all!! Best of luck in your continuing search for the perfect .41 pistol for yourself!! Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Thanks for the good wishes Doc.
Nice pix of nice guns ,I see you have several of those rubber speed loaders now. How do you like them?
I am still searching for that perfect .41 wish me luck- I wonder why I always have to have that certain thing that`s so hard to find or different from the norm!!!!!

Morning, Jack,

You are very welcome, Sir. I do hope you eventually find what you are seeking, and are 100% satisfied with it! I very much love the .41 Magnum cartridge, and feel that, properly loaded, it can do most of what is needed to be done with a hand gun. Works for me, anyway.

As to the Tuff Products Quick Strips, yes, I like them very much!! In fact, I have long hoped that Bianchi, who have long made their Speed Strips for the .38/.357, would eventually make that same product for the .41 Mag. But, even after correspondence to Bianchi, many years ago, they have never been receptive to doing such a thing, probably feeling that the need for a .41 loading strip was too small for them to tool up for making it. The ones from Tuff Products are actually better, in many ways, than those Speed Strips from Bianchi! So, my desires for such a thing have MORE than been fulfilled by Tuff Products Quick Strips!! And, the company is a very good one, as they went over and above the call of duty when the PO was having trouble "finding" the order that TP had sent to me. Great folks, and great service, for a wonderful product! A couple of those Quick Strips lay nicely in your pants pocket, or jacket, and offer a very nice addition to regular speed loaders. In the case of my little 5-shot Taurus .41, I like the Quick Strips better than the Max Fire speed loader, for better cartridge retention, and so have been very happy to finally have that base covered. So, yes, I like those Quick Strips very much, and just to cover my bases, I bought four pairs of them, and am very happy to have them at hand, when needed.

Again, best of luck to you in your search, and have fun in the seeking, too! Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Have the NG M357 in 41 mag

I have the NG in 41 Mag. I like mine. I have been shooting the Winchester Silver Tips and use those as a carry round. I found that it is a lighter than some of the other "hunting" rounds. Winchester also markets them for personal protection.

The NG N Frame is big. I did special order a holster from Lobo Gun Leather for it and it works pretty good. In fact I'm wearing it now. I've been thinking about changing the grips to the rosewood ones to help with concealment, but you should be able to conceal it just fine. I really don't have an issue now except my shirt sometimes hanging on the rubber grip, but it's not that big of a problem.

I took note that all these guns, except the Ruger, had rubber grips. For me that would be pretty much a necessity with the 41 Mag. Back in the 70's I had a Model 58 in 4" with standard wood stocks, and that recoil impulse would get your attention. I currently have a 4" nickel 57 with target stocks and it's fun to shoot. The weight of the Night Guard series is a double edged sword: light to carry, but a handful with magnum loads. If I could turn back the clock, the M58 would be my preference, recoil and all.

BTW, nice group of guns there.

Hey I just picked up my new 657PC and I gotta tell ya, what a great looking revolver. Everything is tight, fit and finish is excellent and the trigger pull is smooth right out of the box. Will be shooting it this weekend I hope if I get some rounds loaded. Now I need some good advice on a holster for belt carry, something that can be worn both strong side as well as cross draw. Any and all help please.
