So, I was just offered a chance to order a S&W 686 with New Mexico State Police 90th Anniversary markings for $1,096 each, maximum order of 5. They should should be available 3-4 months after ordering and payment by a specific date.

New 4" 686s are about $860 several places online. It's a curious choice of anniversary vehicle as the 1935 NMSP revolvers were Colt New Service in 45 Colt, and the agency has issued semi-autos since 1990. There were some 686s issued from the mid-80s to semi-auto transition, but not many had them.

What are you all's thoughts about this?

$$$$$

I have not yet been able to adjust to the notion that modern revolvers are somehow $1000+ at retail. I’m not a policeman but I’d not slow down long enough to give that offer a thought.

Like most police marked guns the value seems to be in the notoriety of the outfit or personal connection. If you are from New Mexico or had family in their state police seems like a steal. Any 686 to me is worth 1k, so I do not see it as unreasonable at all.

I feel like they release special designated models often enough that it takes away from their actual value. The limited/special editions don’t excite me at all….BUT then I am born and raised in New Mexico. We rarely see much in the industry that will reach as far as our state!
