I just picked up my M&P 15T from my FFL after ordering online and noticed that the HBAR 1 in 8 that came with it does not have any threads on the end for a flash suppressor. If I get these machined on, am I likely to have trouble as the threads are not then nitrided?
What threads are needed to allow adding standard suppressors?

Standard thread pitch is 1/2 x 28 and .625 long. You'll need to use someone who knows what they are doing and they'll already know correct threading requirements for an AR15 and cut concentric to the bore. Threads not being nitrided isn't an issue. If you don't know of a qualified operation in your area take a look at ADCO Firearms. They have a very good reputation in the industry.

Sounds like you purchased a compliant model for states that can't have evil features.

Actually, I think it's because some locales think flash hiders/suppressors are evil features. All new Sport II's sold here in Cal. come with non-threaded 16" barrels. And the OR version comes with a threaded barrel and thread protector

Thanks. I have found Adco. Seems pretty reasonable. Any idea why S&W would have a barrel that is unthreaded.

Compliant model. Either you ordered the wrong rifle or were shipped a rifle different than you ordered.

This is of no help to you now, but for others who might find themselves in a similar situation when ordering a new firearm online it is important to read the seller's firearm return policy prior to ordering and inspect the firearm prior to transfer.

The last couple firearms I've ordered were from Grabagun.
See #6. "Once the firearm is ready to be picked up at your FFL, inspect the firearm to make sure it is exactly what you ordered. If there are any problems, do not accept the transfer. We will gladly have the firearm picked up and returned to us at our expense. "
