After several weeks of having a "no lock" M&P 340 on order thru my local dealer and looking on the various web gun dealers it would appear there are none to be had. I hope Smith and Wesson does not discontinue/modify/ or improve the best pocket pistol made. I had a 340 with the lock and sold it to get one without. Hope someone from Smith reads this.

I've had mine for about 6 months and feel lucky to have gotten it quickly from my LGS. Hope yours comes in soon.

It seems like they Ration Out some Models.

I had to keep my ear to the ground to get my 442 Pro Moon Clip (No Loc). It came from Bud's. I kept checking the web site for months untill one was listed back in stock. I have never seen one listed anywhere else.
I rate the 340 M&P and the 442 Pro Moonclip as the two best Airweight J Frames in current production. I wish the 442 Pro Moon Clip had the same front sight as the 340 M&P. Then it would have been perfect for my needs.

The 340 M&P was not listed as a Night Guard however it is a 3 series J Frame with the XS 24/7 front sight. To me it WAS part of the Night Guard Series of revolvers. I sure hope they did not drop it from production with the last of the remaining Night Guard L and N Frame's.

Oh, they're making the M&P 340... Just with the internal lock. I can find those any day.

I can't think of a worse gun to put that mechanism in. Obviously S&W recognizes that it really shouldn't be there or they wouldn't make the no-lock model, however infrequently.

My LGS, has NO J-frames in stock, and has not had any for over a month. They usually have full stock, plus doubles and triples behind the counter. My guess is that S&W is going back into production as we speak...
I just called to get some yoke screws for my 342, and they are on backorder??

Now that you mention it, my local gun shop has been out also.
He normally carries the 637, 638, and 642 Models.

The Firearms industry is having record sales this year. S&W has posted significant gains over the same period last year.

They just announced that they are more than twice as backlogged on getting orders filled as they were at this point last year. They are working on increasing production to keep up with the current demand.

Be patient and I am sure your revolver will show up.

No Lock 340 M&P Availability

To ALL people who want a no lock 340 M&P please contact the factory directly and let them hear how many (if many) people want these guns:

By Telephone:
1-800-331-0852 (USA)
Mon-Fri 8:00AM-8:00PM Eastern Time

I have a hunch Smith would be making lots more money if built a truckload of these guns and shipped them out.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE inform them that they also need to improve their quality control with these scandium framed guns and that you expect no less than the best from this legendary company.

Be aware that the company is heavily back ordered. Four years ago, Smith reached RECORD levels of product back orders, $123 MILLION in back orders. Last fiscal quarter Smith and Wesson's back orders reached $428 MILLION or so... trust me, they are swamped with orders.

You may also want to let them know how many other revolvers you would buy if they did not have that lock. I bet the company would double its revenues overnight if they got rid of that lock from their entire line. Ok, hope this helps and hope you contact them to let them know how interested you are, thanks. :)

I purchased one less than a year ago and waited a week to get it. It's also a no-lock (I insisted) and shoots like a dream. The front sights are fantastic and now I feel I didn't need the CT Laser. Big $ though....

I am still waiting for my "no lock" M&P 340. Recently I was told by customer service that they were being put into production in October and shipping in November. Still haven't seen any available anywhere and my friend with an FFL finds none available in his distributor network.

Update, I was told both by the regional Smith and Wesson rep and independently from someone in S&W customer service that the "no lock" M&P 340s were put into production in October and were shipping in November. Still, my back order from July has not been filled and there are none listed as available at any online retailer. I think it is BS that Smith and Wesson can list a model in their catalog but apparently produce so few that none have surfaced in 7 months. I welcome anyone's thoughts or insights. Thank you.

Asit turns out, I already have one that I have delocked. The M&P 340 is the best concealed carry pistol I have owned and I decided to replace my Kahr pm9 with another one, and for both reasons of aesthetics and principle prefer one without a lock.

There's one on GB right now currently at $736. I was thinking about it, but I've likely got a line on one locally. It was a little harder to find as you have to type in "m&p340" without spaces. I don't have any affiliation with the seller, just thought I'd pass it along as I've seen how scarce these things have been since I've started looking for one.

I ordered mine last October. Gun shop said 6 month wait. That would be this march hopefully....

Lots of makers, particularly older ones (like S&W) produce in batches by model. A given model may only produced once or twice per year based on estimated demand.

In an environment like this, stocks on hand can evaporate quickly and result in LONG waits.

A good example of this limited batch production, is the Marlin 1894CSS (lever action in stainless steel) - probably the hardest to find gun on my wish list.

My LGS, has NO J-frames in stock, and has not had any for over a month. They usually have full stock, plus doubles and triples behind the counter. My guess is that S&W is going back into production as we speak...

The LGS I work at part time has been out of stock on J-frames for nearly a month/6 weeks. We've had a 638 on backorder at all of our distributors for over a year for one of our customers. None to be had.

The last one we had was a 642 with lock...now we can't even find those.
