no longer can afford to live

Life

To quote Hamlet, "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" summarizes our life on this mortal globe. On April 3rd of this year I was at my doctor's office for a routine visit , getting the "at a boys" on my health profile, "great numbers" I was told. I left the office in good spirits. Made it to the parking lot and the Mrs. said she wanted me to drive to Sam's Club. OK. I buckled the seatbelt and I thought someone had shot me, the pain was terrific. I drove around to the ER and barely made it to the door. From there my life is a mystery, I have no memory. I woke up on day two to see my family gathered around the bed. I was in "critical care", they didn't think I would make it. I had a spontaneous artery bleed in my left kidney. My "great numbers" were what carried the day, besides I'm an old grizzly bear. As long as there is life there is hope. I saw the "angel of death" but he did not call my name. Doctors are great, but there is a higher power.

My aunt, full blooded STUBBORN German, got cancer back in the 60's. The doctor gave her about 6 months to live. She replied, "You old ***, I'm going to outlive you!". And she did. Got cancer again in about 1989. They gave her 3-4 months. She lived another 3 years and never stopped going to the places she wanted to go and kept doing the things that she wanted to do. Even after they amputated one of her legs.

Back in 2001, my brother suffered a massive heart attack. On the way to the hospital his heart stopped and the EMTs hit him with the paddles. He ended up getting a quintuple bypass. This year one of the grafts collapsed and gave my brother another heart attack. Luckily he was near a hospital and the failed graft was repaired. How is he doing now? We were together in Punxsutawney over the weekend.

A friend was told that he had three months to live at 58, he was told twice more that he would die in months. He outlived hie wife and children and died at 93 when his convertible Mustang was T-Boned by a dump truck. His 38 year old girt friend was with him and survived her injuries as did his child she was carrying. A doctor these days is not always but too often someone whose Dad was a doctor and has the connections to get in and can pay tuition at med school. What once were professions are now industries.

Just so you know. The doctors tried to write my Dad off 6 times over the years a span of about 40 years. Absolutely sure he was gonna die. He proved 'em wrong every time. 7th time finally got him, but not without a fight.
I, myself, have knocked on heaven's door twice. I'm still here and plan to be for a long time yet. ;)
Doctors don't know everything. Don't listen to doom sayers.
