NO LONGER - Stuck in Las Vegas...

Sorry for the ordeal. I hope that you're able to have a breakfast burrito at the Spic and Span while you're there. Estella's on Bridge is good as well, as is the Rialto across the street from it. Nothing fancy, though.

If you are able, the Rough Rider collection at the museum might kill a little time and interest the kids a bit. :confused:

Haven't made it to Charlie's Spic N Span yet, but the several of my team mates recommended the place. We have been walking to the Smiling Faces, on Grand - they have a great green chilie sauce, pleasantly warm (for an experienced tongue).

We walked past the Rough Rider museum a little while ago when the wife and I walked all the way to West LV so she could get a refill on her meds.

I'm drinking, but as you say, just not enough. I only have enough Shiner to get me through another two days...if I ration it. I seem to be turning into a beer snob, the Allsup's stop and rob a mile down the road only sells Bud/Coors/Miller and a couple lighter colored mexican beers. No Shiner or Negro Modela.

On the upside, it appears the transmission may arrive tomorrow. If it gets here early enough I can be on the road and stress testing the new unit. I'll have to push straight through to the house, so I can repack and hit the road for Sacramento. I'm, supposed to be there early Saturday morning.
 
MKT; Too bad we're so far away, I'd bring you some Dungenus crab being caught here in the bay. But you will be gone before I could get there. By the way, I believe all the fine folks here on the Forum are pulling for you. Good Luck & God Speed.

We did get a glimmer of hope this evening...the replacement transmission arrived in Albuquerque around 6 pm, provided the dealer is one of the early stops we might be able to get mobile fairly early tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Outside of the delay in getting a replacement unit to our location the extended warranty has performed with flying colors. No BS from the company, fairly straight forward dealings and my "away from home deductable" is $100. When we're through I'll have to pay the dealer $132, because some shop materials aren't covered. Not too shabby.

My glimmer of hope has just been smashed. Turns out FedEx only delivers to Las Vegas Mon/Wed and Fri so now they are saying it will be here by 5pm TOMORROW. I am so damn torqued right now, if the tranny doesn't get here until 5, we'll be stuck here until Monday afternoon. The wife's sargeant isn't going to be happy, myboss isn't gonna be happy either.

Now the dealership is trying to figure out a way to get the tranny today. Which means someone will have to go to Albuquerque to pick it up.

We'll see what plays out.
 
I've been following this story. It's kind of like "what else can wrong next". I've been in similar situations, but never with my family in tow. I'll bet you haven't slept much. Once it's over you may laugh about it, but probably not. I'm truly sorry for your problems and hope they end (as they will) well.

Already thought of that. I called and suggested that if the dealer had a truck I could use I would go get it. Unfortunately, their truck is off to the auto auction (trying to add a couple used vehicles to the lot I guess). The manager has contacted the guys at the auction and they will pick up the tranny but won't be back here until later this afternoon. I guess the auction is down around ABQ. Hopefully this will work out. One more day here is way better than another four. I'm pretty sure the dealer is getting tired of my truck hogging one of their bays too.

Dang...sometimes ya just can't win! Hang in there, it is bound to get better.
 
Finally some good news.

The dealer buttoned up the Suburban at 12:15pm yesterday afternoon, I was loaded back up and on the road by 1:30pm :D!

Quick stop in ABQ for a Whataburger for all of us and resumed driving. Basically gave the new remanufactured tranny a stress test, ran it for 15 hours straight, pulling into Sacramento at about 4:30am today. Basically an uneventful trio except for the drunk driver & high speed wreck we were almost a part of.

Feller coming up, lights out at approx 100 MPH, nearly rear ended the slower car I was fixing to slide by on the Highway 99. He locked them up and started getting squirrely. I braked and tried to evade him, he opted to "shoot the gap" I just created. For his efforts he managed to lose control, shoot across the highway and into the center barrier. I thought I was going to T-bone him. After hitting the barrier the car careened back across in front of us, again with me thinking I'd T-bone him a second time, and launching off the highway into a huge Eucalyptus tree. Most folks would be dead but this goober bailed out and ran :). No one else in the vehicle. CHP on scene literally within 3 minutes. I played a good witness and didn't bother chasing him, hell I was about spent after driving all day. Definitely too much excitement.

Finally racked out about 5am and was at the range and ready to shoot at 8am. Posted my highest score of the year today too, maybe I should try going without sleep before the next match too ;).
 
If you live in Temecula what on Earth are you doing in Sacramento?

I've had a few adventures on 99, most of them because I was not being good.

I didn't see this thread until now but when I read of your problems I was thinking that you and your family were OK and that eventally the tranny would show up so have some wine and stop sweating the small stuff. Without going into detail let's just say I have learned what is important and what is not.

I'm glad it all worked out well. If your ever stuck near ABQ again there is a resturant called The Range, if you aren't too worried about your waist line check it out.

A much better shot than me once said, "Marksmanship is not what you once did; it is what you do on demand no matter the circumstances." I am glad you didn't let any of this stuff rattle you. Outstanding effort. And I am glad your trip ended safely.

Ahhhh....home!

This turned out to be the longest one week shooting trip, coming in a little over two weeks. Glad to be home, the wife is glad and so are the kids. The new transmission is working just fine in case anyone was wondering.

I had to get to Sacramento to shoot the California State Match. Under normal circumstances I would have been home 4 days before having to travel to Sac. I had been in Northern New Mexico shooting the NM State and Colorado State Matches, as well as a regional. Now I have two weeks of no shooting, well, except that I have to qualify on Tuesday. Other than quals, no shooting until August 7 & 8.
