I just heard about an executive order signed by president Obama halting the sale of used military brass to the civilian market. This will have a severe negative impact on the availability of ammunition to the civilian market.

If the current administration can't take away our weapons, they can make them next to useless if we can't get ammunition.

Not exactly a presidential order, but just as effective. As I understand it the DOD has changed the rules and all brass will have to be shredded before being sold as scrap. Now is the time to start writing your reps. Also, there is a similar thread in the lounge.

It is part of the ingenious economic recovery plan that started on November 6th of last year. He is going to begin in the gun industry to "spark" the economy!

INGENIOUS! Now brass prices will be much higher! I wish I would have thought about this kind of plan! Of course they would call me ignorant, stupid, crazy and many other descriptive words that might come to mind.

Actually Obama is looking out for us and we should be grateful.Out of his love and affection for us,he is weaning us away from ignorantly clinging to our religion and guns.

This was a well placed blow.

It will at least double the price of .223 brass.

Death of the second amendment by 1000 cuts

Here in our part of the world, I have not seen a box of .223 (and I don't even own one) for the last few months. If you can find brass, which I also haven't seen for quite some time, you're going to pay a premium. I don't know what to make of it, but .45 ACP ammo and brass is non existant. I have guys at work pestering me now to reload for them (who says you can't make money in this economy). I think we are all headed to a very dangerous place. I know in a few counties south of me, a new ammo "registration" law is going to be voted on, and what I think might come out of that is some hoarding legislation or maybe being told how much you can get. Maybe even having to turn in your old brass to get more new ammo. I will say that Obama ha spurned on the gun industry, but to what cost? What will happen in a couple of years if shops cannot get ammo anymore? Or if those stupid microstamping laws get enacted. I have said before, I don't think the libs are going after the guns directly, but get the ammo, and all you will have is a well balanced club or an expensive paperweight.

I can get buckets of brass for around $10. The last few I got I recovered around 2000 .223 brass. I sold some and have kept the other.

I may bag some up and head for the gun show with it just to see what it will bring.

Like Dave says, who says you can't make money in this economy!

(Just kidding! My prices will be about 1/2 of what new costs.)

There seems to be some money in brass right now Smithcrazy. A couple weeks ago I won an auction for 2000 9mm brass for $37 including shipping. When the brass came in I mentioned having it (but not the price) to a guy at work that reloads. He offered me $35 a 1000 for it and I sold it on the spot.

The next auction I won was a little more dear, almost $50 for 2K delivered, but I still came out ahead. Yuo may do well with you brass, things are crazy right now.

Totally insane!

We can purchase factory PMC 223 ammo from Korea
and Wolf metal from Russia. So lets scrap all our brass, melt it down and then sell it China so they can make stuff and sell it back to us.

Make perfect sense to me.

It's ironinc that just a short year ago I had over 70,000 factory primed new 223 cases I was offering for sale on various firearm forum classifieds. Couldn't give it away.

Now I'm getting e-mails from guys dredging up my FS posts.

I was just bitching the other day because I had to move the kitty little bucket filled with 7.62X51 brass again ! Now I understand why it's so heavy - it's filled with gold

Being gun enthusiasts,I suspect most of us have a lot of miscellaneous odds and ends laying around that seemed pretty worthless a short time ago.

I have far more primers, powder and brass than I will ever use.I have powders (still sealed)that I no longer need because the guns chambered for those particular cartridges that the powder is useful for have been traded or sold. The same with brass, dies, etc.I've almost considered it junk.

I no longer consider it junk.I now view it as future bartering power.

Gee, and I thought I was lucky in being able to buy 4 bricks of 22lr at my local gun shop. There is nothing but dust at Wally Mart.

I have a lot of fishing lead sinkers, perhaps a black powder gun is in my future. I can make the powder like the guy on U tube.

I've seen this posted on every gun forum I frequent and everyone gets their undies in a bunch over it. It's NOT new news. The original documentation was dated 1996 and the Army was "supposed" to be doing it.

I also just found this on another site.
Just came down from NRA-ILA after meetings today, the DOD has reversed the ruling on the destruction of brass and sale to the private sector.
