NO RC COLA NEEDED!!

Moon Pie and an RC is good. But, you never want to have a Moon Pie with a Sun Drop Soda!

I wish this had not been started---it brings up a rush of memories that I have been cogitating on for a long while now.
Dirt streets, and city maintainers----drink boxes that were indestructable and were used as chairs when needed---Cokes that seemed to take the enamel right off your teeth---the old local Dr Pepper bottleing plant.
Lord boys--this was right after the war--right after---the old horse hair car seat covers----vents in cars---no heaters---.
In 1949 we had no car--walked everywhere--the groceries were delivered---city limits were three blocks from the court house in two directions--US 59 and Hwy 190 were paved and two lanes.
Riding the train from one end of twon to the other by stepping up and grabbing ladder---Boys I was 7/8 when I first did this---can you imagine the fuss today and the trouble my mother would be in.
We still had hand cranks and telephone operators--party lines and my number was 352-G. I did not know what street I lived on because there were no street signs and we got our mail at the Post Office---directions toi my house were to go over to the elementary school and we lived on the corner by the cafeteria.
Church bells ringing on Sunday mornings--I was actually given the task to ring ours.
No locks on doors and keys left in cars. Bridges had runners to drive on--one lane.
I got a headach and there is no cure but death.
Blessings

Where does Cream Soda fit in to all this? I couldn't stand it then, and I think I'd barb now, if I just saw the bottle now.....:mad::mad:

Strawberry soda is another one....

Moon Pies....Ok....They go good without anything.:)

WuzzFuzz

My Mom bought RC and moon pies all the time when we were kids. And we are from the north... so not just a Southern thing:D
Unless she picked up the duet the 9 months we lived in Tuscaloosa in 1966 and carried it north. But Moon pies were awesome.
The RC I always thought was just cheap pepsi or coke. We always got the off brand stuff.

I've had a few RC colas, Frostie Root Beer, Diet Rite, Big Red and Mountain Dews. After receiving my driver's license, I was able to get a job at the local RC bottling plant in my home town of Jackson, TN.

My first job there was on a route truck. After two weeks, I was transferred to the plant. I learned how to run the bottle washing machine and other machines used in the bottling process.

I almost lost my right index finger in the mixing machine. The drinks, after the carbonated water was added, were cold enough to drink. There is nothing quite like the taste of a fresh RC.

My employment in the soft drink industry continued through college with Summer and holiday jobs as a relief/fill in driver for Coca Cola. Everybody, during that time period, was happy to see the "Coke Man" (not to be confused with "da coke man") and the big red truck.

I know every back road and country store (that used to be there) in West Tennessee from the Kentucky state line to the Mississippi state line. I have a nice four inch scar on the upper right portion of my chest from a 64 oz. returnable bottle to remind me of those fun days!

I always preferred Pepsi to RC because RC seemed a little greasy to me.

You can still buy Moon Pies in my neck of the woods but they are much smaller than the original and cost a lot more.
