I don't get it. I keep hand towels in my vehicles just for minor clean up issues. Recently spilled some coffee in the car and tried to wipe it up off the new leather interior with new non absorbent hand towel and just pushed the coffee around and not soaking any up. Back to the quicker picker upper paper towels, but whats the good non absorbent towels, maybe to old to understand.lol

I use the yellow colored microfiber towels from Costco - always some in my glove compartment. I use them all over including for my vehicles when detailing. They definitely absorb much better after they are used for a few minutes - but are not great at absorbing right out of the package. After a few minutes they are spectacular. More than likely it has to do with their manufacturing process that makes them that way. I do not like using paper towels in or on vehicles - yes they scratch!

When drying my cars after washing I wring them out well and they seem to absorb better and better with usage. I do NOT wash them! Most of us know that dish washing and laundry detergent removes waxes and you can never get 100% of the detergent out so I have a used towel bin in the garage I throw the old used ones in after drying. They then get used for greasy and oily jobs (oil changes, car repairs and maintenance, messy jobs around the house like plumbing, and then tossed. This way I feel they are getting used to their fullest without being contaminated for delicate usage.

After you have washed your towels, don't use a full-size dryer sheet when drying.
That affects the absorbency.

I tear my dryer sheets in half or even smaller depending on the size of the load. You don't need much.

If they are made of some synthetic....

....or if the fibers aren't right, they won't pick up spit. Sometimes I think they put some kind of 'water repellent' preservative on them to keep them from getting moldy on the trip from Taiwan.

I hate getting one of those after a bath.:(
