i have a sd40ve with less than 50 rounds fired through it.
it loads and extracts rounds with no problem. what it wont do is cock when it cycles. i have to pull the slide back about 3/8s of an inch to get it to cock. i can fire it and it cycles fine, but to fire the next shot i have to pull the slide back again.
any ideas on what is happening and how to fix it. i have taken the gun down and cleaned and lubed it twice. i have tried 3 different brands of factory ammo. it worked great for the first 20 rounds through it.

Could tell you quickly looking at it, but...
Is the gun factory new, or used new to you? If used, it may have been "improved"...
Did you put a lot of oil or grease into it when you had it apart? That can cause failure to reset.

If it is factory new, unmodified, and not over lubed, contact S&W to get it checked.

it is factory new and has not been modified. it was cleaned and sprayed with rem oil. i have sent s&w an email. i am waiting to hear back from them

i have no clue.
i cant figure out why it cocks when you move the slide back just a little. but it doesn't cock when the slide is slid to the back when shot. it has something to do with the trigger being pulled. if you hold the trigger back and move the slide it doesn't cock.

Sounds like for what ever reason the trigger is not resetting. I would do an inspection on the trigger and sear with the slide off.

I take it after you fire you are letting the trigger ALL the way out so it can reset. You can't "stage" the trigger on a SD. I would look at the trigger spring and the sear spring to make sure they are in there proper location.

If you don't want to fool with it the only thing you can do is send it back to S&W. That will take a couple weeks, but they will make it right.

other than field stripping it. no parts were removed. midwayusa has a trigger kit for it that reduces the trigger pull by about 3 pounds. i would like to install one of those. until i get it working right i am leaving the current set up alone.

Keep in mind when you install this kit there goes the warranty. Can you post the link to this trigger kit from midway?

It's yours to do with what you like.

The Apex kit is a good proven system that that takes the pull down to 5.5#'s. That is a good kit for a carry piece.

The Galloway Kit states that it takes the pull down to 3.5-4#'s.
That is considered to be more for race guns not carry gun.

Like I said it's to do with what you like.

i will probably buy both and see which one i like the best. this side arm is not my normal concealed carry. actually i usually carry it as an open carry when i am hunting. the coyotes around here have gotten ridiculous. at close range i prefer the pistol to any of my hunting rifles. i am more likely to fire it at hogs, snakes, and coyotes than anything else.
