Sorry, but I am having trouble keeping a perspective on ammo prices. Does anyone remember the going price for training ("inexpensive") 38 special ammo just prior to the rush? I think 9mm was about 17$ a box but I can't remember what 38sp was going for.

My guess is that factory training ammo will reach a reasonable price before primers become available. I want to be ready to buy when it gets to a reasonable level but I don't know what amount would be reasonable anymore.

Checked orders from Target Sports: 2019, total of 2,500 (1K 158 gr SWC, 1.5K 158gr SWCHP) .38 spl for $13/box 50 in 2019. The order below it (2018) shows "500 rds Federal 124 gr 9mm HST @ $19/ box 50"! Joe

In early 2020 I paid $19.99 per box of 158gr FMJ. 38 Spl. Overnight it went up to $29.99, and took off from there. Just in the last few weeks I bought a few boxes for around $28.00.

I was able to buy 9MM for $15 a box, but I never saw .38 spl below $23 a box. In fact I bought some at that price from Freedom Munitions just before the ammo started drying up.

Lately I have purchased 9mm Ball for $17 a box.
Like I have posted, when I see it, I buy it.
This afternoon I visited NRA Whittington,
They have a pretty good inventory of Handguns.
But not much Handgun ammo, none that i shoot.

Thanks guys. Anyone care to guess what the new normal price will be when it settles out. I am thinking it will be lucky if it gets down to 20$ a box of 50.

Things will settle back down, close to where they were before.

9mm brass $200 a case.
223 brass a bit over $300 a case .
7.62x39 steel, about $200 a case.

Those numbers are still actually higher than beforehand, but will be welcomed.

We have increased production runs, coupled with a decrease in purchasing. I suspect shelves will be full by New Year's Day.

Certain specialty ammo will be pricey and scarce for awhile.
