Nostalgia Question- Highway Patrol TV Series

Okay...so recently I've been watching a few of the 1950's "Highway Patrol" TV series shows, and I can't figure out the revolvers being used. It looks like Broderick Crawford mostly flashes around his Colt Detective Special, but what are the Sergeant and other Patrolmen carrying in their hinged clamshell holsters? The revolvers look like S&W (K38s? Combat Masterpieces? .357 Magnums? Highway Patrolman? M&Ps?), but some could be Colts. Any of you nostalgic Forum members have a guess? Thanks.

I watched a good number of episodes on July a while back and almost all of the uniformed patrolman were carrying Colt Official Police 6 inchers. One or two had S&w M&Ps, but the Colts were the usual. Most of the bad guys carried 4 inch OPs.
