I populate several gun forums and one spot I always hit is the BST sections. Most ads describe the item, the price, may or may not have pix and the approximate location. Some have the curious phrase "Not Interested in Lowball Offers." I was wondering, does anybody really seek out LBO's? Gee, "I have this pristine Model 27 for $1595 but I will entertain anything above $50." Don't see it happening but you never know. Joe

I always enjoy the " I don't really need to sell it, I am just seeing what kind of offers are out there" people who list no price at all. Looking to trade their used GLOCK 22 and are interested in things like Barretts, Arsenal AK's, etc. etc.

There is someone here in the Denver area that continually wants to trade silver for used firearms and rants and raves about exchange prices. If you are going to want retail for your firearms, then I am going to want over spot for my silver...... Blah Blah Blah....

I have bought and sold a bunch of things,
Including a lot of guns.
I appreciate all sincere offers.
Sometimes you get some ‘lowball’ and complicated offers.
Just the other day I got a Lowball offer on some land.
The bottom feeding buyer knew exactly what he was doing and wasn’t exactly shocked when I declined his less than generous offer.
But I thanked him for his offer, anyway.
Some folks seem to be just messing with you.
That’s when I tend to heat up!

sometimes you just feel the need to ad disclaimers to ads.

On Armslist I will routinely include phrases like

1. "If it is listed it is still available" Yet how many idiots still ask "is it available?"

2. No shipping- "will you ship"

3. I'm neither broke or impatient. Serious inquiries only please.

You might be surprised by how many people leave long ago sold items up for sale on AL and never bother to remove them. It's why people ask. :)

I've also talked sellers who unthinkingly checked "No Shipping" into shipping to me or my FFL as appropriate. On scarce or rare items, it's sometimes worth asking. :)

I'm not particularly impatient, but I am broke most of the time. :o I take on all comers, deadly serious or not. Sometimes the frivolous ones emailing you from Nigeria are the most fun or interesting ones. :D

Where I live, there is a local board where you find some extremely impolite, defensive, put-offish, hard-butt sellers. The above statements would be considered very mild... almost friendly... compared to the insults and "rules" these belligerent sellers lay down on potential buyers. It's like they are doing you a big favor just to entertain your potential interest or offer. I avoid those crude personalities at all cost. I know from experience that nothing good ever comes of trying to negotiate or deal with an idiot.

Repost - but I love this story!
Decided not to go ‘full frame’, put my Full Frame Nikon up for sale on Craigslist. At about $2,000, no shipping!
Got a response, with a phone number that I thought was local guy with odd cell number.
Talked to him a couple of times before he told me he lived in frigging Ohio!
He got upset when I told him, NO SHIPPING!
Then a guy calls and says he lives in LA.
I remind him, no shipping! He say, I see that.
He say, will you sell it to my Mother in person?
Well, yeah!
His Mother lives in Grants, NM , 60 miles away, but she has a relative who has a mail store here in Albuquerque not far from my house.
She meets me there with cash in hand!

The ones in the classifieds on this forum that get me are the ridiculous trades some people plug up the first page with:
"I have a vintage Velo Dog pistol my Great Grand Pappy brought back from WWI. Super historical interest and provenance. Want to trade for a Triple Lock or possibly a Registered Magnum if in pristine condition."

Yeah, as in "I've been dreaming about finding a sucker who is chomping at the bit to give me twice of top dollar for my common gun in less than great condition."

We have our house on the market and after it was shown by another realtor, we received an offer $100,000 under our asking price, which was about half of the asking price. Needless to say we didn't even respond. Why would the realtor even make a offer like that? I guess some people think the dangle of $'s will make people go goo-goo eyed.

I decided to list my Bultaco motorcycle on eBay a few years back. I said no international bidding, but two people really wanted it (it was a rare model) and as it progressed, I kept getting messages asking me to stop the auction and sell it now, but I refused. Finally it ended at $3,801.00 — which pleased me until
I found out the winning bidder was in Spain! Turned out, no problem. He had a contact in the area near me who had a business procuring rare cars and shipping them to buyers in other countries. He contacted me, asked how I wanted to be paid and I told him I preferred cash. He said OK and asked if I could get it to his warehouse which was about 20 miles away. I agreed and took it to him in the back of my pickup. He gave me a big wad of cash and asked why it was worth so much? I told him it was a very rare model. It ended well. I assume its back in Spain where it was manufactured. I’ve seen that model described as a Spanish hand grenade with a short fuse. It was fun to ride with a great suspension. Only weighed 198 pounds, with 38 horsepower...

Wife prefers the couch she bought that evening with part of the proceeds. I stopped racing when I became a daddy anyway, so it sat in my garage for many years.

At least in my state, pretty sure a buyers agent doesn't have a choice.

The reason people make low ball offers is because they want whatever is being sold, but they don't need it badly. And every once and a while they're rewarded by people that say yes to them.

There's no penalty asking for a low price, but there is a penalty paying the asking price and not negotiating the sale price.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't like to haggle as a buyer or a seller. If I think an asking price is too high, I walk away. If I think its fair, I'll pay it.

If I am selling, I always state that my asking price is my lowest price. And I do not reduce my price as days go by without activity (new lower price, final reduction, etc, etc).

That's pretty darn funny given that Aim has LE surplus Glock 22s for $300. If I hadn't just bought a new vehicle for my wife I'd get one, even though I have no love for 40 S&W.

So you have jut admitted on an internet forum that you engaged in a straw sale of a Full Frame Nikon-knowing full well it was a straw purchase. You better hope to hell it isn't used in a crime or you'll be in BIG trouble there.

Was your Bultaco a 360 Astro?
