Was speaking with a long time friend of mine who lives in New Orleans. He is a long time reserve Captain (Post Certified) with the Orleans Parish Sheriff office. I will not sat everythnig he told me but two things stuck out. First both the Mayor and the new sheriff are from Compton CA which explains a lot. Second, the sheriff will not allow anyone to call the inmates "inmates" or "prisoners". They are to ge referred to as guests, friends, visitors.
That pretty much says it all.
I know at least one forum member who has a son with the NOPD and I suspect he is as sick about what is going on in New Orleans as I am. I am sure he is keeping up with the goings on.
SUch a beautiful city totally gone to ****.

I lived there for a few months in 2018. It was pretty much out of control then so it's hard for me to see how much difference that would really make.

There are so many shootings. There was a shooting at a Daiquiri bar 3 blocks away. Killed three wounded seven. I'm sure that's just old news now. The reality is NOPD only actually clears (FBI definition) maybe a third of the murders, though the method they use (solve rate) to count them gives a higher number in the mid 40%'s.

It is one dangerous place out in the streets for the people who live there. Not a place for tourists to venture off the beaten paths.

It's really sad that we have allowed so many of our once beautiful cities to degenerate into slums...

It seems so obvious that people with poor behavior will continue their poor behavior until the pain of the consequences exceeds the perceived rewards of poor behavior...

It's really that simple. It's why "dumb" animals can be easily trained not to **** on the living room floor.

Likewise, no matter what we call manure, it still stinks!! You'd think the sheriff would've figured that out by now.:confused:

Here is a novel idea, let's refer to them based on the crime they were convicted of committing.

So, burglar, petty thief, murderer, rapist so on and so forth.

I would bet the victims would not have referred to the home invader as a guest. Do they think the shop keeper who got robbed considered the robber a customer.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

I recognize that some of these folks are products of their environment, and we have to try to improve the less fortunate areas for god's sake come on man.

I have not been to New Orleans for many years, but even when I went there you knew to stay on the main drag. Just a street or two away was serious trouble.

That seems like a microaggression. Self-esteem is better built on a foundation of terms like dirtbag, maggot, puke, (excrement)bag, thug, thuglet, etc.
 
I wonder why people flee California than proceed to contaminate their new environment with the nonsense they just fled. Is there now a special name for death row guests?
 
In Kansas in the late 80s or early 90s I interviewed for a position at the juvenile correction facility in Topeka.

Guy before me was in his interview for 40 minutes or so and I thought wow they are thorough.

I go in and out of the first 3 questions I said "inmates" twice. And no further questions were asked.

I was out of there in 3 minutes.

It isn't new just coming around again.

I lasted 4 months at VA Probation and Parole after I retired in 2019 and you don't even want to know how my Public Defender Investigator interview went in the early 90s.

I used to get worked up over stuff like this. Now, I figure, in a case like this, the people knew the background of these two slugs, (or they should have), and they elected them anyway. Fine. Now you live with your choices. Ignorance and apathy have a price.

The inmates...er...um..."friends" have been running the asylums for quite some time now. That particular mindset has taken over many of our coastal states' big cities and beyond for quite some time. It's the "left is right, up is down" philosophy that leaves most of us scratching our heads.

Unfortunately a lot of good folks who don't agree with those choices have to live with the consequences, as well. That's the danger of these morons who love to mewl the lines about "our democracy". The ignorance and downright lies fostered by our news media and "education professionals" that perpetuate this garbage infuriates me. The reason those "old dead white guys" gave us a representative republic INSTEAD of a democracy was that "one-man-one-vote-majority-rule" is a ticket to tyranny. Like the old saw about two wolves and one sheep voting about what to have for dinner.

The Founders knew what lies in the hearts of men, and knew the power that elected office brings that is rife with temptation and occasion for abuse. They gave us the tools to rectify mistakes and correct the ship when it veered off course, but the devil in the details -

In effect, the Republic has been hijacked with this blatant lie convincing many (a majority ?) that we operate as a democracy. That's why we are seeing so much subversion of Constitutional principles to the point that many want to abandon the electoral college and guarantee the tyranny of the majority. It emanates from the highest office in the land when this lie is perpetuated by that elected official.

It's not so much that they elected these two idgits, it's that they'll reelect them over and over.

Some years ago I posted on a company sell/trade board that I had well composted manure available free (excess from the stable) and that I'd load it. Had no takers despite being prime garden prep time. Relabeled it "fine organic fertilizer" and got rid of the excess in no time.
 
In the correctional facility where I do volunteer service the incarcerated population are referred to as "residents".
