Over the past couple of years I've gotten NRA certified for instructor in Basic Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home along w/Range Safety Officer.

It's fun to give back, many have been there (and still are) for me.

This past Sat Local Club had a small Basic Pistol class, I helped out w/live fire on the range. Because the class was small all students were able to be on the line simultaneously rather than have 2 groups alternating.

I coached the same student throughout the afternoon. A gentleman, late 60's, had shot a little in the past. He listened, took instruction and applied it well. It was pretty much a matter of going over basics and fine tuning his skills. We were using club supplied Ruger SP101's. Not bad revolvers, triggers were a bit heavy, DA in particular.

Once I'd determined my student, Dave, was good I asked the Head Instructor if I could let Dave use my gun. No problem.

He used the 617 no dash pictured here.

Dave went from enjoying himself to really having fun. Whether SA or DA his results each string were a ragged hole w/a flier or two for humility's sake.

It was a good afternoon for both of us.
