NRA Membeship

I just posted this in another (not gun forum) and thought it should be here in this thread!

Have been a NRA life member for over 45 years and an endowment member since 09. I also was a NRA instructor for years and feel I under the NRAs programs helped a lot of people to use and enjoy the safe/sane/legal use of firearms. That instruction also included working with local boy scouts.

Yes folks the NRA can be a minor pest at times, but it's doing a serious job that needs doing PRESERVING OUR GUN RIGHTS.

I do not agree with everything the NRA has /said done in the past, but to be blunt if it was not for the NRA the onerous prosecution of the 2ed amendment would not be going on today. No the battle would have been lost decades ago. England/Australia and to some extent Canada are good examples of places that have lost the battle.

I let my membership lapse after they did nothing to stop the last AWB. I dont see them doing anything this time around yet. I am sure there are others who feel the same.

I don't see the point to try to demean those who choose not to join for various reasons.

The NRA wasn't nearly as powerful in '94.
Go back and look at some history, though. The NRA made democrats who voted for the AWB pay dearly in the '96 elections. I believe Clinton even attributed Gore's loss of Tennessee and maybe W. Virginia in 2000 to NRA efforts.

It is, of course, your own business if you choose not to support NRA. Speaking for myself, I believe you are very short-sighted if you do not do so.

Because they failed to stop the last one, you're going to refuse to help us stop this one? We're not trying to demean anyone, we're asking you to please help by joining.

. . . so what is a more effective alternative to save your gun rights??? . . . or maybe do nothing??

You gotta be kidding me...

"We hang togeather or we hang seperately..."

In my view anyone who enjoys the freedoms that the NRA has sucessfully fought for and doesn't join is a freeloader.

Had it not been for the NRA, the '94 AWB would have been permanent.

The NRA is the best (if not perfect) option we have right now to show our political might.

If someone won't pony up $35, but will go out an buy a brick of .22's for the same price, then I have to question their commitment to this fight.

I'am a member and would be a life member if someone would sponser me. $300 fits my retirement money but $600-$100 doesn't.

I have said it before and I'll say it once again...................

Let's NOT fall into the "I'm not renewing my membership because I didn't like what they did 3 years ago" or "they keep annoying me with donation letters", or whatever.

There is NO organization, NO Politician, NO group at all that will mirror every persons ideology 100%, so we have to go with the best option we can. THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR RIGHTS AND WE MUST SUPPORT THEM SO THEY CAN SUPPORT US! I understand they are not the perfect organization, they do things to tick me off too, but I am a proud Life Member never the less. This time is the real deal and they need ALL the support possible. Gun Control only gets worse, not better and the more fuel you put into the fire the hotter the flame gets for our side. So PLEASE PLEASE support them in anyway you can - it will come back to haunt us if we don't!!!

The price of an NRA membership is nothing compared to the price of lost freedoms.

If you're not sure the NRA will do enough... what have you got to loose, $35? If they succeed, you've helped preserve priceless freedoms. The risk/reward benefit ratio is a no-brainer.

I'm too old to know how to attach the emblem....however, I've been a NRA member for as long as I can remember. Actually I was a member for decades and didn't even own a gun! I didn't start owning guns until a few years ago.

I see a large amount of posters that don't display the NRA emblem. Is it that they don't belong, is there some organization that does a better job for us, or is there some reason that it is better to leave the emblem off?
My thought is that it is the least we can do, it's like not voting and then complaing about the administration.

The NRA does not represent me. They say they are pro-gun and I say I am pro-gun. Thats about all that we overlap.

The NRA has about 4 million members compared to the nearly 50 million gun owners in the US. The NRA officially represents about 10% of gun owners.

Why doesn't the NRA represent more than 10%? Lots of folks are put off by their hysterical fear-mongering, like George H Bush.

Perhaps if the NRA returned to their orignal focus of marksmanship and safety they would represent more than 10% of US gun owners. If they want to represent all gun owners they better put on their thinking caps and get to it.

We're never too old to learn. After you log in at the upper right corner of the page is a box that says "Welcome moe l." Your name will be highlighted, click on it and it will bring you a page called "About me, Personal Profile Information". Under Organizations and Associations you will find several organizations listed including the NRA. After each listing is a little yellow bar, when you click on it you will be allowed to edit your profile and show the emblem. Thanks for your continued support.

Being unsuccessful is not the same as doing nothing. And if you don't see them doing anything yet this time around, I would respectfully suggest you're not looking.

There are a number of gun rights groups out there...but the NRA is the 800 pound gorilla on that stage. I'm sorry, but I can't imagine any reason why a serious gun enthusiast would not be an NRA member.
