I'm curious about gun owners here that chose to join the NRA or other organizations that claim to fight for your 2nd Amendment rights.

If you did joined a group, which one?
Do you see the value?
Will you renew?

If you decided not to join a group that supports your 2nd Amendment rights, why didn't you?

I have been an NRA member in one way or another since 1969, I am now a Benefactor Life member. I have joined the NRA because of my involvement in target shooting and they manage the classifications. If I remember correctly, it is the International Shooting Union that oversees global competitions, and recognizes the NRA as the recognized rule making body for the United States.

When I joined the NRA, the fight to retain Second Amendment rights was not in the forefront like it is today. If I were still looking to join an organization today, I think that I would still join the NRA because of the numbers, it's history, and it's voice. Is it perfect, ... no. Does it have internal issues, ... most likely. But it does have international legitimacy in the competitive shooting sports, which is it's original mission statement.

I'm also a NRA member. Of the different groups to join, the NRA is probably the largest and most influential. As stated in the previous posts it's not perfect, but I believe it's the best option to fight for our gun rights, so I would urge you to please join.

I would say if you're only going to join one 2A organization, the NRA is probably the one with the most clout, as others have said.

At various times, I've also been a member of the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Owners of America. I don't know what their current status is, but at the time they were more focused on the local/state/grassroots level when the NRA focused on the national level. They might be worth checking out, too.

I'd also suggest looking for state 2A organizations in your state, as they'll be more focused on state-level 2A issues that'll have more of a direct impact on you.

Just my opinion.

I belong to three organizations.
NRA - life member, I see them as a lobby group active on the federal government and somewhat within states.
GOA - good federal level lobby group.
VCDL - Virginia Citizens Defense League - a great group that is highly active within Virginia.

Welcome to the forum, BeAnalog. :)

Could you tell us a little more about your survey? What interests you in the question?

Out of curiosity, why do you use the phrase "claim to fight for your 2nd Amendment rights"? [Underline mine.]

The owner and staff all support the NRA. I’m a Patron members.

This is from our Terms of Service:
WE ARE PRO NRA
We support The National Rifle Association. We believe The NRA is the biggest and best dog in the fight to protect gun rights and the Second Amendment. You may not believe that, but this board is not your platform for NRA bashing.
In plain terms: NRA bashing is NOT allowed. Take it somewhere else.

I’ve been a member as long as I can remember.
What they do better than any special interest group is mobilizing a very dedicated single issue voting group. This creates a very powerful group that politicians attend to.

No question the NRA is the organization second amendment folks should support.

Join National, Regional, State level organizations. There is NO rule that says you can only belong to one.
I’m a Life member of NRA, among other organizations.

I support creators on social media that promote the 2nd Amendment.

There are many ways to support gun rights. Find the ones that work for you.

I have been an NRA member since the mid 70's and a Life member since 2000 and now a Patron Life Member. Is the NRA perfect? No. But it is the best we have in fighting for our rights. Without then our 2nd Amendment rights would be severely eroded.

What is the definition of a "perfect organization?" I've yet to hear one.

I am a Benefactor Member of NRA, and a Life Member of Gun Owners of America. All I know is that Wayne LaPierre can say to any lawmaker, "I speak for 5 million DUES-PAYING members." A lot of elections have been swung for less.

On a lighter note, I always enjoy telling this story about my dad. He became a Life Member of the NRA back in the 1950s, when a Life Membership cost $50 or $100. After NRA acquired its present headquarters building, there was a drive by NRA in the 1990's specifically to raise funds to pay off the mortgage on that building. Pop said to me essentially, "I sent in a contribution because I felt guilty for living so long." Pop lived for another 20 years.

As soon as I came to the U.S. I signed up with the NRA. Since then I became a Patron member and I'll keep supporting them.

Do I agree with everything they do? No. But they are our biggest voice in D.C. and if we are dissatisfied we simply need to vote and make our voice heard.

Worked my way up slowly to NRA Benefactor Life. Sent money to the ILA from time to time also. Been at that level for awhile now. Today I Joined Gun Owners of America. Can't hurt being a member of both. As far as value goes, hard to say. The only thing I've lost is a bump stock...so far.
