Finally was able to get outback and shoot nib 48-7 4" I bought in January soon as I picked up from FFL it had runout so I sent into Smith they evaluated/repaired yoke and replaced locking bolt. Never have shot it until today ran 61 rounds thru it CCI 30gr polymer tip and CCI 40gr jhp both had for approximately 10 years and shoot outta 22mag rifle for woodchucks just fine. It progressively got worse some had to pull trigger numerous times and even move cartridges around in cylinder to fire. Never had this issue gun was clean called Smith hate to send in again but it's just not right they sent me another label and said gun was test fired there. When in single action trigger doesn't seem to reset like it's dragging play in hammer. All shots fired double action. Thank appreciate any feedback.

Not sure if your issue is the same, regarding the misfires, but my M48-4 also gets progressively worse as I shoot it. I figured out that, even when clean, my chambers are pretty tight, and the least bit of unburned powder that gets in the chamber during reloading, doesn't allow the next cartridge to fully seat. They seat enough to allow closing the cylinder, but when I fire the gun, I'll get a misfire due to the cartridge not fully seated; when the firing pin strikes the rim, part of the energy goes to fully seating the case, not enough left to crush the primer. If I leave the unfired case alone, run the cylinder around as I shoot the remaining cartridges, the misfired round invariably fires the next time.

So, I started blowing forward through the chambers between loads, to clear out any grains of unburned powder. The next set of rounds usually does just fine, no misfires. I'm shooting CCI ammo.

Has an early 48 that the factory could not fix to be reliable with CCI factory ammo. Finally sold it in disgust.

No endshake strain-screw is tight gun is clean. 2-3 light strikes per cylinder required numerous hits or repositioning the cartridges. CS asked if I'm new to guns or had someone else try shooting gun. I said no ma'am never had this issue in any gun and something is definitely wrong.

Guns headed back this time said they replaced the yoke and firing pin. Hope this does the trick.
