The new NYS Law 'ammends' what was until a day ago, current AWB law in NYS that has been in effect since '94. 265.00 NYS Penal Law
Here's that old law's definitions, exemptions, ect..
Scroll down to #22 for the definition of Assault Weapon (Rifle, Shotgun & Pistol are buried in there)
The 'features' talked about that are necessary to classify are listed.
Starting w/ Semi automatic and having a detachable magaine,,,
The change in the ammended law is that now only one feature needs be present instead of two to classify it as an A/W.
New York Penal - Article 265 - § 265.00 Definitions - New York Attorney Resources - New York Laws
Also listed are the exempt firearms (22rf cal tube feed, shotgun tube feed w/ 5rd or less capacity ect) Keep in mind this is the now old law.
Careful reading of the ammeded law passed yesterday will refer to any updating of this.
If no updates are refered to in the new law,,then the old wording is still in effect.
This is in the original law (Refering to definition of A/W):
(e) provided, however, that such term does not include: (i) any rifle,
shotgun or pistol that (A) is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever or
slide action; (B) has been rendered permanently inoperable; or (C) is an
antique firearm as defined in 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(16)
