NY Gun Laws Problem

It'll be a while before NYS allows NFA for it's subjects.
It would be a giant leap for them just to allow the legal sale of Strike-Any-Where matches,,,and sparklers,, to the masses.

AOW's are already A-OK in NY, if you can get your CLEO to sign off (or form a trust). Personally, I'd rather have a suppressor, but a Serbu Super Shorty is on my long list of wants...

And I picked up strike-anywheres from my local grocery last month. :)

I know AOW are OK but I was always more interested in conventional brass eaters than a shotgun pistol. I have enough problems hitting stuff with the regular length model shotguns!
That one looks like a nice piece of work though from the pics and info on their website.

The CLEO signiture is a problem in many places, especially around some Metro areas. Damn politicians.
I did meet a guy at the Syracuse show more than a few years back that displayed an H&R(?) break open single shot pistol in 20ga I think it was. I mentioned something about AOW or registration pertaining to such,,,and he just gave me a puzzled look. Then he said 'It's a pistol,,it's on my permit, that's all'. 'It don't have to be registered with the gov't (Feds) as long as it's on your pistol permit'...!
I just walked away..

That's Assembly Woman Carolyn McCarthy from a down state district (Long Island (?).

Her jump start into politics was the '93 L.I Railroad multiple shooting. Her husband & son were 2 of the victims. Husband died,,son wounded and recovered.

She ran for State Assembly first in '96 I believe. She says she got into politics because of the shootings. Says she will do everything she can to heavily regulate and/or ban firearms.
Sympathy vote most likely played a role in the first election bid , perhaps the next.
But by now I gather they just like her alot down there and keep re-electing her.

Her name is on just about every anti gun bill that comes out of that legislative body either as a sponsor or the author.
Just got re-elected this Nov I believe. I wouldn't doubt if she trys for a seat in the US Congress soon.

McCarthy IS a US Rep, has been since 96.

Yea, I have no problem getting Strike Anywhere matches in NY recently. They were gone for awhile now they are coming back for some reason.
Anyways... I wish people wouldn't get into politics just because one or more of their family members got shot. First thing is, they are making it harder on themselves trying to ban something that will constantly remind them of the tragedy. Secondly, politicians don't understand that criminals will still be able to get firearms even if they were all banned. All the laws really do is make it harder for the average law abiding citizen to get a firearm. Plus, I wish they would look at statistical data and see that firearms save lives (from home invasion, self defense, etc.).
Anyways, I'm aiming towards moving to PA because of NY taxes, gun laws, and restrictions. Currently, I only live 5 minutes away from the border.

So am I, RC. I don't even cross over into enemy territory if I can help it. I go to Dickson City rather than Middletown. I fly out of Scranton/Wilkes Barre rather than Newburgh so I can easily bring my guns with me. Life is a lot less restricted.

I have a quick question regarding pinned stocks, is it illegal to unpin and re pin a stock in a different position so the gun is more comfortable for me to hold and shoot? As long as I pin it permanently and would require heavy use of tools to unpin again, i don't see why not.....but I don't see why half this stuff is even in question in the first place lol

I moved out almost 20 years ago for that reason and won't go back for the same. I love the country (upstate) but just can't live under those conditions.
I see the census data reflected the drop this time around too. Unfortunately for several decades there has been a large exodus of people from upstate but it was always off set by more immigration into the city. Apparently now the exodus has exceeded the immigration rate. What ever happened to the movement 30 years ago to separate NYC from the state?

The purpose of most laws today (and this is in Atlas Shrugged) is to have a reason to arrest someone. It is not to protect society or punish the evil. The laws exist for the government to arrest people that they need a reason to arrest.

That was the purpose of the original Sullivan Act. It was put in place as a means to arrest political opponents.

It's not just the guns laws that are excessive in NY. I can see the over regulation in many forms compared to the rest of the country (obviously not just NY either as Kalifornia is the epitamy of oppression). I can even "feel" it every time I go back home. If you spent your entire life in the state it is hard to recogognize it until you leave for one of the truer free states. I see this with my family and friends who still live there.

Funny you mention that. Last summer we visited Savannah, Ga, and one of the first things I noticed in the downtown area were the folks riding their bicycles without headgear. Try that in NYC. Just one example of the "freedom" people have given up.
Hopefully in a couple more years I'm out of here, love NY State, hate the politics. Got my eyes set on western NC at the foot of the Smokies.....or thereabouts.

I do not live where I am not wanted. I do not go where my gun collection is not allowed.

Those still living in NY should not complain. They must enjoy it or they would move to another state.

I agree NY laws and those of some other states are not right and way too restrictive. But the last time I was in NY, I found roads leading out of there. Other places have jobs, better laws, better weather and remain gun friendly.

Complaining about the laws in NY is like remaining married to a woman you cannot stand and constantly argue with. Why put yourself through it when there is an option in either case? Just leave. If you do not, then you are either not that serious about your guns or you are not that concerned about the laws. You know the laws are not going to change due to those that keep getting elected.

Thanks you, O Master of the Obvious. If you could get your head out of that dark place, and out where the sunshines instead, maybe you'd realize there are reasons why people can't just pick up and move.

I suppose there are reasons to stay married to someone as well.

Personally I was offered a great salary with benefits that required relocating to a non gun friendly state. I turned it down. Nothing holds us to any place other than ourselves. It is up to an individual as to what they feel best for them. I just take my gun rights seriously, moreso than most.

As to your concern about the location of my head, it is in a proper place. I am open minded and look at things logically. Borrowing a line from a Democrat, some people say why and I say why not. If a location does not suit your life style then try another. I walked away from a 24 yr position to relocate in a new area, in a new field. It took a couple of year but I came out better off but it took courage to leave family and home.

Moon, why argue with haters, their intellect is so superior.

Btw, look which state has the highest murder rate, almost 3 times NY:

Others do not live in your utopia. I think moon is refering to obligations that tie us and not just money. There are older, ailing parents and relatives, kids that need help as they struggle with their young families. Many would move but are sitting on homes in markets that have tanked and/or are upside down. There is a couple from MA we are friends with here staying with his ailing mother. They would move here permanently but his health insurance is only good in MA. There are many things like this that tie us down and they are more common, and the ties get stronger, in Rust Belt states like New York.
