I'll bring you up to speed on this one. The little town of Johnsburg, NY which is up here in the Adirondack mountains, only about 20 miles from me, is considering banning guns on town property, something that has angered the entire community because we are all very rural and very conservative. The town supervisor was once a district attorney and a public defender. This story came out yesterday and has really got the blood up of the locals.

Sounds like a good idea to me, especially if it makes the supervisor feel safer. I can see an armed, angry, irrational person bent on causing harm approaching the building and, upon seeing the sign restricting guns, walking back to his vehicle because he didn't want to violate the law. Since we all know how well laws work to prevent violence, this sounds like a no-brainer.

Lets see...there has been no incident or threat involving firearms on town owned property and town property is owned by who? Oh, of course - the town. And if the people of the town leave, then there is no town. So, actually the town property is owned by the people who actually pay the taxes and fees. The people that administer the town are appointed or elected to do the work of the town for the people are actually employees of the people.

However, I was watching tv and saw this man shoot up some business and I got scared and had a bad dream so I want all guns band - immediately based on my perceived fears - that of course haven't happened. Does that about cover it?

Ah, but its not about safety per se.

Its about the feeling of safety. See, if they post a 'no guns' sign at the door the bureaucrats 'feel' safer going to work each day.

At least, until a guy walks in with a pistol and doesn't catch view of the 'no guns sign' on his way to perpetrate some cold blooded murder.

On that tragic occasion the price of that safe feeling will be expensive -and bloody.

A more effective and less messy form of personal safety is not a sign,but a CCW permit and appropriate training.

First comes town buildings. Then comes town property. Then comes public streets. Then comes 1000 feet from town property.

I have seen this movie before and I still am amazed at how people come up with these ideas.

Even though I live in a pro gun area, the city leaders always come up with anti gun ideas. It began with city buildings, then city property, then parades and on down the hill. Last time it was the Mayor saying when a police officer detains you in a traffic stop, you lose all rights, including that of having a firearm.

Someone ought to walk in the lady that brought this about and ask her if they pulled a gun on her, just who would have a gun to combat the criminal with a gun.

People, we are making too many criminal safe zones.

Yes, why enforce laws that are already on the books when you can enact feel good laws that infringe upon the law abiding citizens rights. Trust me the PRNJ politicians have that one down to an art.
