NYPD M&P 1957

Went from Harlem to Brooklyn, eh? He must have moved to either Long Island or Staten Island. I used to work in the 77. Once you cross Eastern Parkway you were in the 71.

This is my father's NYPD service revolver, He carried it from his appointment date in June 1957 to his retirement in 1983. It was also his off duty carry and he subsequently carried it in his security career until his passing. I am sure if this revolver could talk it would tell some tales as it was carried in Harlem in the late 1950's and early 60's. through the MLK riots and even the big blackout in 1977. In the 1990's I carried it as an off duty when the range guys cut it down to a 2" for me. Nearly shot a guy in Brooklyn with it when I interrupted a street robbery, guy had a ski mask on and he turned on me and reached into his waist band. He saw that I was armed and fled into a rail yard and I was alone and off duty, no phone and no help so he got away, but it was close. Dad told me he interrupted a street robbery in Harlem in the early 60"s as he exited a tenement from having a smoke. He chased the perp and let 3 go to get the attention of a passing patrol car and nabbed the perp. No warning shots allowed today. Enjoy!

If you give me the serial number I'll see if I can dig up the Equipment Bureau records.

Best,

Welcome from Muncie IN., Neet revolver, do you think that is a 1956 gun ? I think they started stamping mod 10 in the crane in 1957, not sure, I have a 1966 M10-5 that was my dads, I was born in May 1957, that is a great ideal to take your boys to the range, gives them something to do, learn about guns & gun safety, Long story..
