That one kinda hits close to home, huh Caj? ;) That would be a bad feeling, knowing that you could be hunted down like a mad dog just because some crazy person blames you personally for something ruled in a court of law.

On the bright side, she now has free medical care, 3 hots and a cot for basically the rest of her now 78 year old life.:D

Whoa! Let me get this straight. The attorney represented this old babe in a bankruptcy case and now she wants to kill him. I'm curious. What was the result of the bankruptcy case? It must've really gone south for her to get her dander up like that. On the other hand, maybe she's just naturally crazier than a rat in a hen house. Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah, just what is it that makes people want to kill lawyers? Caj?
Plus, I would not want to represent her for this infraction, either!

Very tempting to make flippant remarks but, fact is, lottsa lawyers get shot at and some die. I knew a few myself. I never got shot at but in my 21 years on the bench trying felony cases and divorces I was threatened a lot. It ain't fun, not for the lawyer/judge or his/her family and there's nothing funny about it, folks. Rant off.

I will be glad to share my lawyer jokes and poke fun at my counselor colleagues.

No one should be threatened this way with a firearm.

I am grateful the judge imposed a sentence with some meaning as a result of her behavior.

There must be significant consequences when firearms are misused.

There is a guy currently serving a life sentence in Minnesota for killing his attorney. Once in prison, he ran for governor. I liked the concept: if he gets elected and he's already in prison, you save a step.

I thought it was only Illinois where governors end up making their own license plates.

I have a friend who used to say the biggest benefit of switching from public defender work to prosecution was the drop in the number of death threats he got from defendants.

I think she's as nutty as a fruitcake, and he's lucky to be alive. Twenty two years added to her current 78 is basically a life sentence.

I too would love to know how she thinks she was wronged. Odd for the article to not say I think.

I'm not a lawyer, but I always have a firearm on me when setting at my desk. You never know when some other turkey in the office has set someone off their rocker. Like the officer said in "The Green Mile", I think her cheese has done slid off her cracker!

My lawyer friend worked very hard to get probation instead of jail time for a burglar. The guy showed his appreciation by burgling my friend's house.

One of our local lawyers was quietly eating lunch at a local restaurant when one of his clients pulled out a gun and threatened to kill him. The lawyer pulled his own gun out resulting in a standoff for a few short minutes. The client backed down and was arrested. The restaurant put up a no firearms allowed sign, like that would solve something. I still carry mine in there when I eat there. I especially like their fried catfish buffet on Fridays.

I think that old gal was probably broke after the bankruptcy and did the whole scene to get 3 hots and a cot for the rest of her life. Even if she makes parole in 11 yrs. her trigger finger will be pretty rusty.

Lot of people get threatened.I remember a excon who threatened to kill another officer and myself .His public defender laughed and told judge that was our job and he smiled shook his head and dismissed charges including domestic assault and resisting that started it all.

At her age it's three meals a day, Medicare and what ever perks she gets.
I think she just gave up living on the outside. I think she's a few sammiches short of a picnic.

Sorry I forgot to mention he also threatened to kill our families. At that time the other officer and myself were both single fathers with daughters at home.He was a widower I was divorced. My daughter had a very protective German Shepherd and a S&w model 38 but I still worried every time I was away.

I do believed that is some peoples retirement plan. I always figured that if a guy was getting in bad shape and had no where to go that robbing a bank or 2 was a option. Get away with it and you got some cash. Get caught, you have 3 hots and a cot as well as medical. Do a post office and retire with federal benefits.

You posted about this when she was found guilty. She was gunning for both of her lawyers with her .410.

Strange stuff indeed

The first represented her in a 30 YEAR legal dispute with a homeowners association. The second lawyer was representing her in the subsequent bankruptcy proceedings.

Her actions certainly were not acceptable, but I wonder how many people would be pushed over the edge after a civil case that went on for three decades and left them bankrupt.

What can I say...

Cajun? It is not easy...

:D

Edit. Age 78. Bankrupt. State sheltered and fed for the next 22 years. How come I smell a scheme somewhere in here?:rolletes:

I lost count of the number of patients that threatened me over the years. Two patients actually assaulted me, one with a knife. He got a fractured elbow for his trouble. Which is more punishment than the judge gave him, 18 month probation.

As to the lady in this case, maybe she was looking for free housing, meals, and health care, but she'll likely find it's not what she thought she was getting.
