October 29th is National Cat Day and.....

Cats
prairieviper; The picture of your calico cat, Patches, reminds me of a calico cat that adopted me many years ago. I have a picture of him, but don't know how to post it. I named him Andrew. He proved the cat experts wrong, as the experts claim that all calico cats are females.
When my neighbor got rid of the riding horses in his barn, Andrew got lonesome, and came to our house for company. He was a huge cat, and finally made friends with me and would set on my lap. I would trick my friends, into tickling his belly, thereby getting them bit, kicked, and scratched.
Another neighbor ended Andrew’s life, by shooting him in the head. That neighbor claimed he only intended to scare Andrew away from a bird that he was stalking.
That ended my friendship with that neighbor.

I hadnt had a cat at my place in a dozen years though I’d always had a cat and dog since I was in diapers. A few years ago we had a problem with mice. Since a few of my friends had tabbies in the past and they are friendly buggers,I got a 16 week old female from a local cat rescue. This may be the friendliest and most talkative cat I’ve ever had around. Fig rules the roost here [emoji38]

I just mentioned this to my gf, who is a geneticist, and she says it is possible to have a male calico or tortoiseshell, but it's very rare. A male calico will have "xxy" chromosome pattern, ie an extra "x" chromosome, like Kleinfelter Syndrome in humans.

This is my best friends “Dog cat”. Follows him around, brings toys and drops them in front of him and stares, “ ok, play with me”. Gets in bed with them and snuggles up to them. Never seen a cat like this. Cool cat.
One of my neighbor's cats, Mr. Manx, is just like that. (Not actually a Manx but he doesn't have a tail.) Follows her around the property when she's working and "supervises." If I leave a door open and he's over here he will sneak in and steal my cat's food. He's a lovely boy, if a bit tetchy at times.

Oh Boy!

We haven't had a cat thread in a while. :D

She used to be just a stray/abandoned scaredy cat but after years of trying I finally convinced her to trust me.

Now she's my inside lap cat. :)

And on a pedestal, where all cats know they belong. As the late Terry Pratchett said, “In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this.” :)
