Over on the For Sale boards is a fellow selling police nightsticks.
While spelunking through S&W papers at CVHM back around 96-97 or so I came across two interesting documents on some things Skelly was inquiring about.
One was a police nightstick that had a notch carved into the business end. The idea was that the notch was sized to fit the profile of a revolver barrel. If an officer was taking a longer than usual shot or needed extreme precision, he would take a knee, place the nightstick vertical with one end on the ground and then rest his revolver barrel in the notch, thus making the nightstick into a monopod.
The other thing which I though was really cool was appearantly S&W made/procured -GLASS- sideplates for their revolvers. The salesmen would use a revolver fitted with such a plate to demonstrate the inner workings of the revolver.
While the correspondence says glass, I suspect they were made with perspex or something period similar.
It shouoldn't be hard to make such a similar thing today and I think they'd be pretty cool!
