I'm in California which has this silly pistol roster limiting me to buying only M&P 9 or .40 (ver. 1) Shields, unless there's a consignment or private party transfer.

My LGS has an M&P 9mm pistol for something like $900. I didn't write down specs, but I believe it's like a 4" or so long barrel.

Am I missing anything by not having this pistol, as opposed to my M&P 9 Shield, which I really like?

Maybe I have FOMO and want-what-I-normally can't get, because I don't quite know what I would use it for. I'm also a Glock person, but fell in love with the Shield, which surprised me because I'm such a Glock fan, because it fits my hand well, my POA is quick, and it actually feels comfortable to carry because of its thinness (vs my thick Glocks).

I'm in CA and all my M&Ps are 1.0s.

I suggest you make sure what model it is. If it's a 4", then it's a 2.0 Compact. At first, $900 seemed a bit low (I'm assuming it's a consignment). After looking around on some CA specific marketplaces, I see them listed for a bit more. but not selling. Maybe it's that time of year, but prices have been falling since the pandemic peak. You could offer less if you feel the need to get it. Offer should depend on what comes with it like extra mags, original box/papers, etc. A careful inspection (field strip) is needed to determine overall condition.

If it's a 1.0, forget it. That's just too high even though it's still off-roster.

As for FOMO, meh... I'm certainly not going to drop 2x-3x MSRP on whatever the "new shiny object" is, just because it's off roster.
