We lost another Police Officer last night. Name has not been released yet. Total dead at that scene is three so the news says. Officer was dispatched to take a domestic assuat report. When I was working domestics were a two man call. Keep your police officers all over in your prayers.

Update. Officer Jillian Michelle Smith 24 years old.

Don't know about today, but domestic disturbance calls use to be the most dangerous there were.

Prayers for his family.

Greetings,

We keep our LEO, Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Folks, in our prayers every single night, and on the really nasty weather days, we add those who keep our power on and roads cleared, as the mudslides can do them some real harm, too! God Bless them all, and their families, and may those who do them harm, get what they truly deserve. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

The Arlington PD claimed on the news this AM that this rookie female officer was sent alone on this call because they thought the assailant had left, and that she would only be making a report.

The estranged mate of the complaintant shot his woman, the officer, and himself.

Is it my imagination, or do these things, like crime in general, spiral around Christmas?

The Arlington, TX police dept. is flying their flags at half-staff. Arlington is between Dallas and Ft. Worth.

Our sympathy and prayers to the family (personal and department) of the slain officer. Of all the calls for service, the domestic dispute is the most volatile, unpredictable, and inherently dangerous. You active LEO's please stick to your training and stay alive. Waistgunner, Ret. LEO

I hate to hear of any Leo being killed out on the line, but what makes it even worse, is the vast majority of them are killed by P'sOS that have long criminal records. Thank our liberal judges for that.

In the case today that Lee posted, the guy was on camera! We don't need any trial for that one, since he was caught on film and he doesn't deserve due process. All we need is a terminal sentence for him. Simply get a rope and let 'em swing over the courthouse lawn.

That's terrible news, I hope her family is doing okay. I believe a friend of mine is nearly an officer now so this kind of scares me

Sometimes you can't wait for the back-up. You have to go in to keep someone from getting killed. Hopefully you can use the element of surprise along with an unholstered weapon. You should always dispatch at least two (or more) to these things and try to co-ordinate your arrival unless you have first hand knowledge it's really out of hand and then you do what you gotta do. You really don't know what you have until you get there. Negotiate first, educate second. My prayers are with the young officer and her family.

This is sickening, but as Charlie Sherrill offers, sometimes a LEO simply cannot wait and must handle the assignment...alone.

Be thou at peace, Officer Smith.

Everyone here who wears a badge knows that you can't trust the either 1) the complainant to be sure that the offender is gone, and will stay gone and 2) that the offender isn't nearby watching and waiting to see what might happen.
Arlington PD (an accredited agency according to their website) sends one patrol unit to a domestic IF it is reported that the offender isnt on scene....
Come on now. The officer was a rookie, but I ain't. I KNOW better than to believe that.
Any agency that, as a matter of policy, sends ONE car to a domestic based on what the complainant says is asking for trouble IMO.
Yes, we have all answered calls by ourselves that we shouldn't have. But I submit, in those circumstances, we parked where we could see what was going on, looked, and listened for sounds of an altercation, or for suspects.
I hope Officer Smith didn't die in vain....agencies should learn from this.

Rest in Peace, Officer. My prayers for her, her family, and her department. An ealier post advised all to stick with your training, good advice. Be vigilent, and be safe.

Officer Smiths services

Got an e-mail this morning that her services will be on Monday. I don't know how to post that e-mail here.
