Offset hammer

About 2 weeks ago, out of the blue, I received a PM from member SFIDEC. Seems that last year he had bought a pre model Chiefs Special that had an offset hammer. He created a thread about with pictures (see below) and I commented that I really liked it. Well, he obtained a correct hammer and offered me the offset hammer, free of charge!

I got it a few days back and I had been trying to decide what to put it on. Digging through the vault, I pulled out a post WW II .32 Long Regulation Police, 4" blue. I opened up my little .32 and the hammer was a drop-in fit! I really like the way this offset hammer feels. I've never been crazy about coil spring I and J frames, but this hammer makes SA cocking very easy.

MG, I looked most favorably on that hammer myself in the earlier thread. Glad you got it and will get to enjoy it. Can you imagine one like it on my dream combination of a Baby Chiefs Special with King Super Police fixed sight conversion? Then add a set of Sanderson or Roper grips and you have the ultimate CCW!

Being a single action kind of guy I think the offset hammer is a big plus. I shoot nearly everything single action, maybe out of habit, starting out shooting single actions. I hate it when a buddy of mine outshoots me with my piece while shooting it double action, ham handed buggers.

That's not a bad homebrew hammer at all! A simulated King cockeyed hammer.

It's fortunate also that your post war .32 is still early enough tht it has the ball & socket spring strut.

Once I figured out that S&W offered a target hammer like the Model 1953 .22/32, but for centerfire. I installed several in my I and J frames. Really like them especially for the reason you gave!

These require the forked spring strut but simple enough to change.
