LOL set phasers to stun.

From the article: "This product isn't to be used when the officer's life is in danger or a civilian's life is in danger."

Soooo, if I'm understanding this correctly, officers will now have to carry TWO duty size handguns? Oh nooo, cops have "too much firepower" will be the next complaint.

I don't know how you guys put up will all you do...

Awful idea. It sounds like it uses conventional ammo to drive the less lethal device. So what if a guy forgets to load the device on his pistol, and fires the conventional ammo? Would that be a negligent death?

Ugh. This device is a bad idea.

Or if the bad guys decide they have time to over power the officer before he is able to switch back to regular ammo.
And what happens when the non lethal (most of them, even been bags are called less lethal) option results in a death (even if not directly related to the impact of the projectile) and the police are criticized because they deployed that device in a situation where Monday morning quarterbacks think did not even warrant use of non lethal options?

What will cost municipalities more, the wrongful death suit from the traditional gun or the pain and suffering for life after being knocked over by the alternative and hitting your head causing a "lifetime of endless disabling pain and migraine headaches "? I better start working on the commercials to round up my clients now!

A person should not have to go out and commit acts of civil disobedience and violence, with the threat of being confronted with a lethal weapon.......

What's going to happen is some poor soul or two officers are going get jumped and shot. With the police under armed, the police union are going threaten a strike unless they re-arm the police. The result is the police is going to be 'over-armed' (over militarized) then another Micheal Brown incident and swing the advantage to the other side.

This is so dehumanizing---why don't they just try talking and reasoning with the perp ? What we need are police that are skilled in language and reasoning in order to keep them from becoming violent.
There I have spoken--and ALL need to see the reasoning and adapt to MY way of thinking.
Blessings

I think that you are not understanding the device. The duty weapon and ammo are as issued. This device merely attaches to the firearm and is launched when the gun is fired. Once the device is fired, the next round fired is a normal cartridge with bullet projectile.

The device rides on the first round fired but is designed to lesson the damage and act more like a bean bag.

Again, I am not advocating its design or use, merely trying to explain the design.

Actually, I see a possible flaw in the design. What if the officer pulls his weapon with device attached at an approaching suspect? The officer wishing to use less than lethal force as the suspect is not holding a weapon. However, as the suspect gets closer, he pulls out his own gun and points it at the officer. Now the officer has his bean bag and the suspect has a bullet.

Is the officer forced to fire twice in the same timeframe that the suspect fires once? Is the officer forced to fire the bean bag into the air to clear his weapon to then have a bullet available? I see potential issues that perhaps trade the officers safety for the suspects.

NOTE: I use the term bean bag for descriptive purposes only, I realize from reading the article that the device is actually something like a ping pong ball.

I wonder how effective it would be on a Pizzed off ...300lb ...doped up, nut-bag who is charging down on you. This also has to affect trajectory. Heck,... this nothing more than an over-engineered pellet gun. One more thing,... this is just what a LEO needs,... more stuff to carry around on the utility belt....

Does this company say that this device will put down a 6' 6" 280 lb. football player without severe injury? Were I a cop I'd want to see that.

Alright I seem to remember .A border patrol officer having to engage armed drug smugglers. His shotgun was loaded with bean bag as per his orders.Smuglers ak was loaded with 762/39 . May he Rest In Peace. That incident still p####s me off!!! How will this idea be much different.

I hope the device utterly fails sothat the world centering around Ferg Missouri--can get back to reality.

Must have been invented by the Acme Company. You remember their motto: Supplier to Wile E. Coyote since 1949.

If they're dealing with Acme they would do better to get those portable holes the roadrunner used. Throw one in front of the miscreant, he falls down the hole, you pick up the hole, and the thug is gone.

That orange gizmo looks an awful lot like the tips on toy guns that are supposed to avert confusion. And will likely promote confusion and snickering instead.
