OK, caption this....

Reminds me of a machine tool rep my brother dealt with at Ford Motor Company. He made big money, had a beautiful home, always drove new luxury vehicles and smoked $20 Padron cigars.

He accompanied us on a Colorado elk hunt and Northern Quebec Caribou hunt. I wasn't impressed. You learn a lot about someone on a long trip. A few years later, my brother invited him up to deer camp for the second week. He realized that he forgot his thermos about two hours into the drive, so he had my brother stop at a Walmart so he could buy one.

He used it for three or four days and ended up shooting a button buck. We tell people to pass on immature bucks. If they're just after meat, we have them shoot a doe. He claimed he didn't see the buttons, but I doubt he even bothered to look.

You probably saw this coming... On the way home, he had my brother stop at the same Walmart, so he could return the thermos.

I did a 6-month stretch working in Home Depot. Their policy was, no questions asked, return it for a refund. I know a guy who had a project that he really needed a radial arm saw for. Bought it at HD, took it home for 4 days to use it on his project, returned it. No questions asked ...

Going back 40yrs to my youth, I was a stock-boy for housewares in a ritzy department store. Do you recall how expensive(& huge) the very first home-use microwave ovens were? We had a gent return one after using it for his daugter's baby-shower, or some such.....over $800 for a filthy, un-sellable ***. Alas, that was the store's policy.. :(

I remember how microwave ovens were in the early to mid-60s. Big and expensive, too expensive and too big for most ordinary families to own one. They were used then mainly by restaurants. It wasn't until around the mid-70s that the size and prices had dropped enough that they became practical for home use. We bought our first one from Sears around 1977-78, it was fairly durable. I think it finally gave out on us sometime in the mid-90s. Replaced it with another from Sears, it lasted until three years ago. Probably our most used kitchen appliance.

OK, I appreciate all the mostly good-natured ribbing of REI and the clientele. However, I also appreciate the return policy. I had bought a pair of pretty expensive mid-level hiking boots. I have heavier-weights and lighter- weights for the appropriate applications. The boots turned out to be too close-fitting and I didn't wear them much. Was always sorry when I did. So, six months later I took them in to see if they could do anything. I exchanged them for 1/2 size larger - no charge. They would sell the original boots in their lightly used on-line store. I was happy because I got a pair of boots that fit, they were happy because they retained a customer, and they probably broke even on the deal. I call this good CS. Pretty sure the grill could have stood a little cleaning before putting on the floor.

When my son worked at Walmart they often had sales on ginormous Flat Screen TVs. He always knew that the ones sold on a certain Saturday would come back on Monday. The Sunday between was the Superbowl.

When he was at Home Depot, the policy was to take things back no questions asked. One time a lawnmower came back with a blown engine. The tag on the gas cap (still on it) said do not run until the engine is filled with oil. The supplied oil can was unused. My son asked if he put gas in it. Answer - yes. But you didn't put any oil in it did you? Answer - Oh Nooo (emphatically). My son asked him to read the label. Answer - Oh. He told him to take a hike regardless of the policy.

It was a gift. I really liked it but the apartment manager said I couldn't grill in the kitchen anymore.

Told a friend he could NOT use my expensive (and dear to me..) paint spray gun to spray his pickup truck, outside, with some sort of crappy paint he found for cheap. No!

He went to Walmart and bought a $100 spray gun. Sprayed his truck..couple of grasshoppers too...and returned it! I laughed when he said he was going to bring it back. The laugh was on me: full refund.

I bet it was originally bought by someone from out of town, tailgated with it for a game then returned it.

Surprised they would resell something with cooked food on it. Sounds risky :D
