Oklahoma's Constitutional Carry Law became effective at 12:01am today, November 1st, 2019, despite a legislator's effort to get an emergency temporary injunction. The legislator's lawsuit against the new law is still pending. The same legislator led a petition effort to stop the new law from taking effect, but it failed to garner enough signatures even before verification of legal signatures took place.

KOCO had the most even-handed coverage of the new law I've seen. Permitless carry is now legal across Oklahoma; here's what you need to know

Nothing approaching common sense going on here. The same day constitutional carry went into effect, the state announced that they are simply turning out in the street from prison over five hundred drug offenders. Our streets have weed shops and casinos on every corner. No common sense here at all. Oklahoma is in the death grip of stupid.

Sounds like Florida, but our city just banned the "adult arcades."

Hmmm, I spend about a month at Ponca city working at the refinery. Saw the pot shops and a couple small casinos. But, town was clean, people were nice and I didn't see any homeless or vagrant looking people. I kind of liked it except for its basically a sauna weather wise. You need to make a trip to Washington state of California to get some perspective.

Nothing wrong with constitutional carry, because bad guys carry anyway so now law-abiding citizens can carry too w/o jumping through hoops. Nothing for me has changed, I assume everyone is armed anyway.

The prison releases on the other hand...

A friend of mine who is a gun owner, just can't figure this out. He has a license to carry, but for the most part doesn't do so. He says that licenses are good because then the cops know who is likely to be carrying a gun.

I've pointed out several times, to no avail, that it's not the licensed gun owners who are a threat to the police. It's the guys without (and who can't get) licenses that the police are worried about.

He just doesn't grasp that concept.

Anyway, I'm glad to see another state join the club. I hope that they are all someday, but doubt I'll be around to see it.

A lot of people who have Oklahoma Handgun Licenses don't carry. It sounds really good: "I'll be able to carry a handgun to protect myself and my family!" That is, until it's time to actually carry a gun every day from "pants on" to "pants off," because it's a pain in the keister. "I'll just carry a gun when I'm going to <insert bad part of town here>." You know that people who live in <insert bad part of town here> have access to cars and know where the "rich" people live, right? I carried a 4 inch Smith & Wesson Model 686-6 or Model 65-1 with 4 speed loaders every day at work for YEARS and every day off duty with Bianchi Speedstrips for YEARS. It never did get easier, but it was comforting to know that IF something bad were to happen that I would at least have a fighting chance. I'm retired now and carry a 9x19mm pistol with 7+1 and two spare 9 round magazines EVERY DAY, and, if I'm traveling to take my wife to medical appointments out of town, I carry a second 9x19mm pistol with 12+1 and three spare 15 round magazines. Is it inconvenient? Damn straight. Is it uncomfortable? Damn straight.

And tell your friend that all licenses are is a tax to exercise a right and a money stream for OSDA instructors.
