S&W made both a tip-up and a top-break model they called Model 1 1/2. Which one is yours? Also, if the gun in question is either type, this thread belongs in the Antique section.

If that is the case it makes pictures even more important, since there are many models that could have a 1 .5" barrel. Unfortunately, hardly any that would have been sent from the factory that way.

Not with out telling us the total # of digits in the serial #!

Also Most models had their own serial # range.

Also make sure your friend measures the entire barrel length, not just the part of the barrel that sticks out of the frame if it has a swing out cylinder.
