Old 357 magnum

"There are people who will engage in barter for many reasons, not the least of which is cash flow."

Over the years, one of my attorneys wound up with my ATV, my travel trailer and a Glock M19. Another attorney got a Browning 1895, a Ruger .357, a S&W M625 .45 Colt Mt Gun and a M27. :(

It's amazing how often somebody stumbles into something for free or for a ridiculously cheap price and it's something that knowledgeable guys will walk through fire or sell body parts to get but the stumbler has no idea what it is he has acquired. Not a clue. There is no justice in the world. There is no fairness. There is only blind, dumb luck.

I'm one of those people.

Hi I recently got a couple old s&w revolvers.so far I've been able to identify one of them with help from this forum. Thank you . now ill try my luck again . this one is an old 357 magnum its got a 5 inch barrel and stag grips its got a huge frame compared to my Taurus 66 there does not appear to me a model number any where there is a serial number on the butt it is511xx there are numbers stamped in the yoke they are reg2112

Is this some sort of sick joke?

Seriously?

There are still many "gun folks" who do not know the value of those three letters ("REG") in the yoke of a .357 Magnum. Another case in point - about 12 years ago on GB, I stumbled into a "Smith & Wesson Model 3261 with Bone grips" for $900 buy it now from a Las Vegas gun shop that specialized in tactical weapons.

It looked like this when I quickly pushed the buy it now button after a quick call to confirm that there was a "REG" in front of the "model number".

As it turns out, it shipped to King Gun Sight Company, had a cockeyed trigger added, and was drilled and tapped for a guard mounted trigger stop. Oh... and the "bone grips" are ivory...:D:cool:

Over the years, I rounded up a box, had a friend with a box of King sights change out the front sight, added the screw for the trigger stop, and added a set of KB Kearsarge Stocks. This is how it looks now:

Best deal I ever got on a Registered Magnum and it is one of my favorite pre-war 357 shooters (it also made a trip back to the factory somewhere in its history as is evidenced by the star on the butt).

I sure hope the OP posts some more info about and photos of the RM he traded into.:)

Never had an Ex-wife. Never needed a lawyer, for that matter. Since my wife IS my lawyer maybe killing two birds with one stone?

Well, it never happens to me.

Every time I read or hear about one of these super deals I think about the poor schmuck who let the valuable gun go for a song without ever realizing what he had. That's life.

Be very thankful that you never had one nor needed an attorney. I believe ex-spouses exist to make us humble. :(

I love this thread. Has he posted more pics???
I also love a story with a happy ending. Like when the lawyer ends up with the gun/wedding ring/ 1968 Camaro ....

I am very grateful I never experienced the trauma of divorce. I have seen my friends go through it. I waited until I was 36 to get married. After a 4.5 year engagement. Not rushing into anything. And I married up...way up. I do not know why she married me. But it'll be 28 years in July...

Wiregrass is a type of grass that grows under pine trees and requires fire to reproduce. It grows in the lower parts of GA, AL and the upper west part of the FL panhandle. Also known as the peanut capital of the world and home to the National Peanut Festival.

I ran the serial number through the hot guns site no problem there . I am planing on trying to get the factory letter from s&w but it will be a week or 2 until I can It does have a king sight in the front not sure about the back yet the front looks like it was added on later but the rear is textured just like the top of the frame and barrel. I would like to find out what the original grips looked like and if possible find a set. I have not managed to borrow a camera yet to take better pics but I will .

Congratulations on 28 years.
We hit 32 at the end of November.

This may not be a popular sentiment, but IMO, most men "marry up" - just by virtue of the fact that they marry women. :D

I've long believed that women are the civilizing influence in human society. You think the first guy who built a house built it for himself? PU-LEASE! If it weren't for women we men would still be living in caves and eating meat raw...

To the OP, you certainly know how to make a splash. You give the rest of us treasure hunters hope of someday finding the grail just like you did.

I saw a marked Reg piece sell for $4,100 this week. But no box or paperwork. I believe that even though it had the number stamped on it, it would be considered a non-registered piece. And it had a couple of finish issues.

I'm glad you got a nice gun for hard work. It may be that it's worth more than what your labor was, but sometimes it's nice when things work out that way. Maybe your friend knew he would be blessing you. I don't know.

All I know is that it's nice to see people get deals from time to time. I've been blessed that my Dad was into buying guns and I have not had to buy very many at all. On the other hand, he wasn't really into buying guns that I thought were the best choice, but I'm not complaining.

What site is this?

Well that's a bummer. The Colt Pony .380 that was stolen from me and reported to the Albuquerque Police Department in 1999 (SN:ML03841) does NOT show up as stolen on that database.

That is because you haven't posted it as stolen on that site. LEO's use their own site.
