Research on line, there are several sites that are into this subject. I have an old Winchester .22 Winchester box and found some info on one site.

It's a ca. 1932 box, a fact revealed by the "Non-Mercuric" call-out. The label is earlier but the overstamping reveals it was early enough in the non-mercuric era to be before Winch used up pre non-mercuric labels and had new specific non-mercuric labels printed in that caliber.

Just like S&W, Winch never discarded anything obsolete.

Along the same line I have several boxs of these old peters .44 specials. They are the old ballon head cases. Any idea of age and value?

It appears to be a box of 50 primed cases, not loaded ammunition. In the photo it also looks unopened. Pretty neat.

Very cool looking box. I actually didn't know solid head cases were that old, I had heard they were introduced around WWII? Thanks for sharing.

Since the box states Winchester Repeating Arms Co. My guess is they predate 1931 when Western purchased them. I have no idea when the boxes would have changed to read Winchester - Western.
