Old Lobo is retiring

I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I've enjoyed the all too few holdters you've made for me.

After I got over the shock I realized it is well-deserved. I did want to order an IWB for my lefty son but he'll just have to suffer. Enjoy your retirement, Ray!

I have never met or talked with Mr. Cory. But, I feel as though I know him. Ray is also a member of Leatherworker.net which includes a sub forum dedicated to holster making. There "Lobo" has freely shared his experience and perspective with others. His tips, tricks and feedback have helped many other holster makers, both novice and experienced.

One of his more recent developments is the enhanced Avenger and enhanced pancake designs which use tunnel loops in conjunction with welts... A really great idea for assuring the handgun rides solid and tight to the wearer. He publicly shared the details, including construction photos. He gave his permission for others to incorporate the concept into their work and only asked for acknowledgement in return.

When you look at his website you see his adaptations of long standing, vintage designs as well as designs of his own making. Basically, he did it his way. Also, his commitment to offer a quality product at a reasonable price represents, to me, as much a personal value as it does a business practice.

I enjoy making holsters as a hobby and I would like to personally thank Lobo for being an inspiration.

Ray, best of luck and blessings to you and yours and I hope your retirement is truly rewarding.

Gordon (aka Muzzleblast)

P.S. I expect we will be hearing from you regularly since you will have more free time to spent here on the forum!

Dear Ray;

I send to you my heartfelt wishes for a long, healthy, happy rest. I said rest, because I know that old leather benders really never retire, they just play golf, fish, drink, hunt and shoot. I have known many of our colleagues, some famous, a few infamous but nonetheless talented craftsman who croaked bending leather, well, maybe cause they wanted it that way. Without reserve I commend you for your contributions on several lavels. As a veteran, thank you. As a lawman, thank you. As a holster craftsman you held the standard and deserve the admiration of your clientele. We are a dying breed, as you know. But you're work will live on for a very, very long time. Through decades to come, men who are young today will sit by a fire and be asked by their wide eyed grandchild "who made that holster and gunbelt for you Pa?"

If they are fortunate enough, they will inherit all. The weapon, the gunbelt and holster.... and the legacy of the craftsman who made it happen. Best of luck Ray!

Cheers;
Lefty

All the votes are in and it has been determined that you are not allowed to retire. To many of us still need fine holsters made. :)

Ray, I hope your retirement brings the years of happiness to you that you have to so many of us with the fine work you do!
Thank you for your service as a LEO and gun leather maker.

Gods Best to you!

Well Ray,

Best wishes in your retirement.

I've tried it twice, and I too am eyein' the possibility
of doing as I please for the rest of this life's trip.

When I get what few orders I have pending, it's gonna be an extended vacation for me as well. ;):D

All My Best,
Dave

Congratulations to one of the finest people I have had the pleasure to do business with. Ray, I just counted in my head, and I believe I have an even dozen of your holsters. I really wanted a few more, though. Hope you enjoy your retirement! (My Model 60 is on my hip, in that pretty little carved number you made for my daughter. I 'borrowed' it for a few days.)

Guess I'm late to the party folks but I'll leave a short note. When I made a post with my first holster on another forum, Ray Cory was there to offer some suggestions on what to do differently and how to improve on the design. Ray has stepped out of his way to answer so many stupid questions as well as point out questions that weren't even considered it is really staggering to look at in hindsight. Ray is a mentor to many more than he probably realizes as this post has already shown.

In short while many mourn the loss I just say thank you! Thanks for everything and I hope you and your wife enjoy the new found free time. I'm glad the 24-3 has a special home in a Lobo Threespersons'.

Aww man...I was so looking forward to an enhanced pancake and fancy stitched belt for my 3 inch 13 :(

Will you maybe be looking for a retirement job? I procrastinated and need some more holsters! :confused:

Congratulations on your retirement Ray. I know you were headed that direction the last time I talked with you. Now you will have more time to spend up here in the Sangres. Good luck, and have fun.

Congrats Ray, and best wishes.
I left retirement and now am doing 40 hr. workweeks with my states' Division of Marine Fisheries. I was just beginning to make some more $$ in order to order more leather!

Enjoy!
