I went to Gander Mtn today and bought the Smith & Wesson 4006. Here's the deal they actually had two 4006 pistols. One was missing part of the decocker, but it was in better shape than the other one. Both did come with a box and two extra 11 rd mags. I almost bought both, but opted with the one missing part of the decocker just because it was in better shape. I also bought a holster to go with it.

Congrats Strat!! You won't regret the purchase. Also let us know what you think after firing it.

Nice gun! The only downfall I can see with these guns is that parts are becoming scarce, which sucks.

Congrats! :)

Should take some hunting to get a decoker/safety but not to hard.

Actually...they're extremely difficult to find. The only one I could find for my 5906 was a steel part off ebay. I actually modified the replacement and spring so it wouldn't come off again.

Hey, Was that at their Dothan store? If it was, they had three 4006's a month ago until I bought one. One of the others was missing the right de-cocker lever too. I've been tickled with mine; good buy!!!!

Unless you are an actual left hander , who prefers to carry on safe , don't sweat it. Back in the day was semi-common for right handers to remove the other safety lever on purpose.

My 4006 and from the photo, yours; have the de-cocker only lever's, they will not stay on "safe" anyway.

Yes, it was at the Dothan store. The other gun had both sides of the decocker, but it had some dings and scratches. I came close to buying both.

My guess would be that it was both a great pistol and the first .40 S&W pistol made.

Not really in demand. Just a great gun that feels and shoot great and is not made anymore.

Dang, I was gonna put one up fer sale for a couple of thousand. 4006, gotta love it.

It's also one of the few .40s that are all stainless. Weight tames a .40 better than anything.

Now if the mags could hold more than 11, we'd be back in business...

Weight tames a .40 better than anything.

ditto this.

i picked up a cz clone in .40 (EAA tanfoglio witness) all metal version i used to call it steel but compared to my 5906 i would bet the witness is alloy bc its not near as heavy and its bigger.

BUT i learned that a Solid heavy gun makes for the best shooting 40 i had ever shot. especially with double/single action

i spent 240 for it at a pawn shop, seriously shoots FAR more accurately and comfortably than guns more than twice the price
